I somewhat compromised my personal taste with what I think are the most groundbreaking albums, so the list is a bit of a compromise, probably by and large but not totally dominated by taste (particularly I only put albums in the first category that I think I don't only like but a proper prog and music enthusiast should really know these).
And as I wrote elsewhere, album quality rules, no "no artist twice" rule, and if that means that the mighty Art Zoyd occur six times in my lists from 1980-2020, so be it.

First category

King Crimson - Discipline
Camberwell Now - The Ghost Trade
.O.Rang - Herd of Instinct
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Brian Eno and David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees
Fred Frith & Francois-Michel Pesenti - Helter Skelter
Fred Frith - Step across the Border
Art Zoyd - Haxan
Cardiacs - A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Radiohead - OK Computer
Slint - Spiderland
Bill Bruford"s Earthworks - Earthworks

Second Category

Tarentel - From Bone to Satellite
Holger Czukay & Dr. Walker - Clash
Cardiacs - On Land and in the Sea
Art Zoyd - Marathonnere I
Art Zoyd - Berlin
Peter Hammill - Patience
King Crimson - Three of a Perfect Pair
Kong - Phlegm
Univers Zero - Ceux du Dehors
Renaissance - Camera Camera (I'm serious!)
Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
Dun - Eros
After Crying - De Profundis
Bark Psychosis - Hex

14. SBB – Memento Z Banalnym Tryptykiem. It is an awesome song.
Despite the fact that I speak Polish, I still have no clue what the lyrics are about. They're like super abstract poetry. xDDDDD

BrufordFreak: Your positivity is uplifting; I love posting in your threads and getting responses like this. Thanks!

I think Bill did some truly awesome work with Earthworks not only on that album. I also saw them live twice and was both times stunned. I don't really get why Earthworks don't do well with PA raters.

Damnit! I always forget that one isn't pre-1980. Would have made my list had I not mode that chronic foible of chronology.
