Sport is rarely a prog subject.  Which do you prefer?  I probably have missed a few...

Golf Girl...?

OK, it's not really about golf, but then again what's Going For The One really about...? Answer known only to JA's "cosmic mind".

Whereas I love 'Cricket Star'  (Kiss me, Ma and say goodbye / I'm going to bowl a googly eye') - it has to be 'When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease'. I had this played at my dad's funeral.

Roy Harper.
Very poignant for me, as I retired from competitive cricket last year after a 55 year career. And I never achieved my lifetime's ambition of getting a century, despite getting past 90 on 12 occasions. I just hope I've got a few years before I "leave the crease" permanently and I promise I won't go back and haunt any of my old clubs!

Rush Marathon. I would also add the Signals album because of its many references to baseball in the credits

Lovely anecdote, it's Harper for me too, I always find this song quite beautiful.

If Primus counts as they are prog-related and you count motor sports as a sport, "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver".

First vote for Robert Wyatt. Great song there, surprised nobody else picked it yet.

Some others that came to mind are Izz's 42 which refers to Jackie Robinson of baseball fame and Major Parkinson's Baseball, Rick Wakeman's G'Ole, and Stackridge's Anyone for Tennis?
