A subject that has come to light recently. I personally think he is prog, but takes influence from a lot of other genres (which is why he's classed as Crossover Prog). Some people seem to think he isn't though, what do you think?

Nope. Steven Wilson is an Alt.rock artist, sometimes "proggy". But on this site, he is "prog", thus this poll is irrelevant.

edit: Steven Wilson's fans believe that "prog" tag is a badge of honor for him, and telling them that their idol is "just another Alt.rock artist" means a blow to their faith. I usually avoid doing that to them, but sometimes it is quite impossible to avoid it.

I know he is classed as Crossover Prog here, what I meant was do people agree with this, which you obviously don't, so I'd say the subject is not an irrelevant one. If loads of people agree with you he could be moved from Crossover Prog - quite relevant, I think, to the Wilson fans of PA.

These discussions are always so unproductive. Anybody saying he isn’t are just edgy contrarians sitting on their all-seeing prog armchair. Yes, Steven Wilson makes progressive rock, Raider II, The Holy Drinker, Luminol, Watchmaker, Three Years Older, Ancestral... these are not art rock or alternative rock songs.

I'd say yes, he has created enough prog to qualify.

Here I am this entire time thinking Steve Wilson was technical Amish reggaetron dubstep.

It really doesn't matter to me. Except for his latest album, the rest are quite enjoyable, regardless is they/he are considered prog or not.

Sure, all of his albums (+Porcupine Tree) are proggy to me, even the Personal Shopper single.

But for me 80's Genesis is still somewhat proggy, so take that with a grain of salt lol

sure he sometimes drifts away from it, but that doesn't change albums like Grace For Drowning or Signify or UTD or The Raven...or...

Is a building constructor a building?

No, I don't think he is Prog, but I do think that he has made Prog music (not exclusively).

Just a fanboy passin' through.

There should be an "I don't give a damn" option.

I don't really know why we're discussing this.
I personally think he's prog (mostly), I like most of what he's done (some a lot) and he's in the Archives as prog.
That's enough for me.
