TMV, though I haven't heard all of the output of either band.  DeLoused and FTM are just too great of albums surpassing anything I've yet heard by Swans.

I know Swans as a name but never heard the music.
The Mars Volta, on the other side, have me mesmerized every time.\
These guys must be nuts or something... Unbelievable energy in their music!

De-Loused has been one of my least liked album purchases, but I quite liked Frances the Mute. Swans easily for me based on the albums that I have heard by both —- I have heard more Swans, but have not heard most of the discography. Soundtracks for the Blind I found both very long and excellent (and 1996 is one of my favourite times in music).

Just a fanboy passin' through.

Same for me. Its a choice between being deeply bored/offended by SWANS or having a migrane from TMV... when I would rarther listen to modern pop chart music then they have to be seriously bad!LOL

Swans, and it’s a pretty easy choice. For one, let’s say all of their records were of the same quality: Swans have more of them. Then there’s the fact that, though I love the debut, most of TMV’s stuff after that wasn’t more than decently good for me, and they even had at least one bad album. Swans is, if nothing else, consistent, and they have more than one record that I like as much as or more than De-loused.

These are both absolutely incredible bands to me, but TMV is in my top 3, so like, I've got to vote them

Easiest poll ever.
Swans are a decent post-rock band.
The Mars Volta are (were) one of the greatest rock bands of the 21st century.

Swans get labelled post rock and I suppose they fit in a general sense but they predate that genre so I can't imagine all of their music fitting neatly into the post rock box.

Their 80s work is definitely beyond the boundaries of the genre but their 90s stuff falls fairly well within it and everything they've put out in the 2010s can be defined as post-rock.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

They do use post rock elements, but I'd say that actually none of their work fits neatly into any other box than "Swans music".
Seems I'm the only one who loves them here... tough luck!

TMV

Swans of course. I like some Mars Volta, but Swans are the best of the 21st century.

I'm admittedly not overly familiar with both bands but nonetheless thought this might make an interesting poll.
