^ Maybe I'll run a Top 7 ELO albums poll, although I have a bad feeling the Xanadu album won't do well in the poll. Smile

Touché, Doc! Yet, even then, I was questioning "whether or not [Kind of Blue] belongs" on PA.

And, yes, Miles is known for his extreme obsession with trying to stay hip, stay young, stay current, stay relevant, so even his early stuff was probably progressive as well as eclectic.

I'm a Jazz lover too, and I'm proud to say Miles Davis' Kind of Blue has a treasured place in my CD collection. Smile
The point was that was a review by Bruford Freak....calling it jazz.

You're probably right on that account but it would make a good poll. I' d like to see if Eldorado or Out Of The Blue would top A New World Record.

I listened to A New World Record back in early high school, I was listening to mostly metal bands then but I loved it instantly, remaining one of my favorite albums ever since. Big smile

Barry White's baby-makin' music could be considered progressive if you're hoping to make progress in the bedroom with some deep & soulful  Lurve. Heart

There are many beginnings to Prog : (assuming that we agree on what's prog)

1- From a historic perspective, it could have started in the late 60's, it's a human interpretation.

2- From a subjective perspective, it started when you discover prog by your self.

3- It's a evolution process, it has new beginnings each decade

Finally it's a philosophical question. Are you idealistic, realistic or evolutionist. I don't think it's important to know the answer because we don't know, but it's fun to see how can debate on this forever...

Life is enjoying the moment and not trying to find the truth, but I must say that those questions are fun in a way, because you can see how people have different views. But those views are use to rethink my own views.

My boring answer would be King Crimson In the Court....
Music is the refuge of souls ulcerated by happiness.

Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) is the first big name composer in classical music. She was German and the Abbess of a Benedictine Convent in Germany.

Good old Hilde, marking her down on Postit note as being the first... Cool <---- that's to cover any black eyes!

One could also argue that Henry VIII was very progressive in minstrelsy. But it's nothing to lose you head over.
