Not quite a prog guitarist, but Eddie was responsible for a huge explosion of interest by young players (mostly teenage boys) who wanted to pick up the 6 string!!

Eddie single-handedly helped turn Kramer guitar company into a massive brand, introduced the locking tremolo to the masses etc.

Worth discussing.  RIP Eddie.

Eddie was a big fan of Allan Holdsworth and gave him support at a time that Allan probably needed it.

I grew up in the late 70's & 80's with bands like Van Halen.
Part of the sound track of my youth. You will be missed Eddie.

I remember Eddie van Halen best for his guitar solo on Michael Jackson's "Beat It" Heart

It's a shame Holdsworth didn't like Road Games, it's actually a terrific album and one of his most unsafe, non-latibule projects.

Also one of the best scenes from Back to the Future...

These two examples clearly prove that his impact far exceeds the boundaries of the rock community.

What a worthless year......Just got off the phone with a buddy and he was in tears. I saw VH at a HS gym in mid 70s (I think) then again at the US Festival '83......

Terrible news....wow

Back in 1978 I went to see Black Sabbath. Backing them up on that tour was this unknown band from Cali. Who knew?
