Open your mind to south american prog! Here's my personal top ten from the 70's and early 80's (only one per band). I know I omitted important bands like La Máquina de hacer Pájaros, Almendra, O Terco or Los Blops, but it's a selection. Take your time, discover and have fun.

Great list!!!! I voted for Los Jaivas, but the rest are worthy of winning as well.

Thanks for putting these up. I only knew Os Mutantes beforehand (I have their Technicolor album); I'm unfamiliar with all the others. So it was an interesting listen to go through all of these songs. Two stood out for me: Crucis and Congreso, so I bring out two votes.

Absolute favorite is Pequeñas anécdotas sobre las instituciones by Sui Generis, which has an astonishingly Canterbury sound, but I was happy to vote for Congreso, Os Mutantes & Los Jaivas.

Although not from South America, an honorable mention goes to Swiss-born Patrick Moraz's 1976 The Story of I which P.A. Special Collaborator Fitzcarraldo called "a truly progressive fusion of rock and ethnic Brazilian music."
"It just has none of the qualities of your work that I find interesting. Abandon [?] it." - Eno

From these I only know Depois do Fim and Alturas de Matchu Pitchu. And as much as I love La Poderosa Muerte, the rest of the album doesn't really do much for me, so I go with Bacamarte.
