I start this poll because listening to some Dead Can Dance recently I think I have underestimated them, or let's say underlistened. There's quite a bit of stuff I love, which is about equally distributed on the four albums between Dying Sun and Into the Labyrinth, however I haven't played them that often despite knowing them since the late 80s, and now I think this is actually a great and consistent band and I should really give them more time. I actually don't know the first two and the last album yet, so let's see whether one of these comes up with a good result here. Anastasis is excellent, if not quite so rich of highly memorable stuff as the four album series mentioned above. I have Spiritchaser but it's underlistened, and given that all Dead Can Dance stuff seem to win my appreciation with time, I should also give that one some more spins.

I vote for The Serpent's Egg but it's a tough choice, I have pretty much four and a half favourites. Feel free to vote even if you only know some of them; it's enough that you love one of them enough to vote for it. Also tell me what's great about your favourite.

I mis-underestimated Dead Can Dance too, having listened to all of their ten albums recently, and I agree that Anastasis is an excellent album, and that's the album I'm voting for. Thumbs Up

I could never get into their music, no matter how much I tried.

Very original and intriguing music! I have three favorite albums and I don't know yet which one to choose from these: Spleen and Ideal, Within the Realm of a Dying Sun and The Serpent's Egg...
I was less convinced by their subsequent albums (but I may have missed one or two).

I love Aion the very best of their releases and I do have them all and play through them from time to time.

Aion is in the lead, and indeed it's a very good album also in my view, but for some reason it's rated only 3.41 on PA, which is pretty mediocre. Confused

Aion for me, from the studio albums. But the live album Toward the Within was their zenith.

Discovered DCD thanks to the local library (which actually, in retrospect, had quite an impressive prog rock collection on vinyl thanks to which I discovered many bands - we're in the 80s) where I borrowed their first albums (and taped them to cassette - sssshht). When it came out I bought The Serpent's Egg on vinyl and I thought it was their best up till then, but the other albums grew on me over time (have these albums now in their splendid audio quality on SACD from 4AD).
I remember that when Aion came out, I was quite disappointed. I don't remember exactly why because I haven't listened to that album again since. Was it more ambient and world tinged, like some of their later albums? With the later albums it was either that or more of the same (but not better, e.g. Anastasis), and more of the same in my world is not interesting. Haven't heard their last album though, will give that one a listen...

Anyway, personally I think The Serpent's Egg is their most accomplished album - it gets my vote-, but sometimes I prefer to listen to Within the Realm of a Dying Sun or to Spleen and Ideal (which is actually overall a bit more rockier and upbeat than the other two). But on most of their albums they put out some extraordinary musical ideas, and the production was outstanding!

'Spleen and Ideal', an easy choice for me! It was my introduction to the band and the impression it left is tremendous!

Aion has been my favorite for a while--despite the wonderful recent additions of Anastasis and Dionysis.
I love the mediæval feel of it.

Me too!  And completely agree on the other two, as well.  Dionysis is way too short, though!

Surprised there are no Dying Sun votes yet, that gets mine.

The stretch from Spleen and Ideal through Aion still stand as my favourite work of theirs.
My heart has held a special place for Serpent's Egg since its release. So even though, if I'm honest in my assessment, Aion's probably DCD's best and most consistent album, I still went with Serpent.

Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, no contest.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

Spleen, Realm, Egg , and Aion are all excellent....but have always been partial to Realm.
I play it too much....

Into the Labyrinth on the other hand is their second highest rated album (and for a good reason, it's stunning!) at 3.94, but still without a vote. Confused  ‹- The face is of course not about your votes, but about this strange mismatch.

as i read this, I have just given "Into the Labyrinth" it's first vote.  I think Aion is close but a bit too short

Only one I liked was The Serpent's Egg.
Welcome to the middle of the film.
