I'm disappointed but not surprised about the few people who are saying they refuse to wear masks. You may not fear the virus, but you should wear it as a common courtesy. This is a prog website after all, so it's bound to attract some Fox new loving out of touch boomer contrarians. The same people who are convinced that the government should regulate abortion and same sex marriage get all up in arms and suddenly "know their rights" when the government wants them to wear a piece of cloth on their face when they're at price chopper.

Same kind of outcry when seatbelt laws and helmet laws were imposed. There was a time when there were no speed limits. Are people less "free" because of these? No, there are more people alive to complain about things.

^ Maybe but the typical conservative, certainly the Trumpeteers, would say they'd like to see seatbelt & helmet laws rescinded.

The trumpateers have rendered the word conservative meaningless. There was a time when conservative meant respecting law and order and exercising caution. Its hard to tell what the word means anymore, if it means anything at all.

Yeah, the eyeglasses are like creepy portal gateways. The skeleton hands are comforting, though.

I wear the surgical/disposable masks they hand out at my work; I don't really want to turn disease prevention into a fashion statement. Masks are purely utilitarian for me; they're a slight inconvenience and I use them to respect people around me, not because they're fun and trendy.

I wear one all day at work except when I'm eating in the break room; I'm running around in steel-toes (which are much less comfortable form of PPE) and lifting heavy things, so if masks are somehow depriving me of oxygen, apparently they aren't working well enough to prevent me from doing my job. My asthmatic dad has no problem breathing with them either. But I know how you guys feel, I used to find turtlenecks uncomfortable and restrictive, but eventually I grew older than 5 and now they're fine.

Being a sports fanatic and avid concert goer, those are definitely two of the things that I miss the most.  I'm just not sure how comfortable I will be going back once these are opened to fans.  I guess that a lot of that will depend on how effective the vaccine is and whether or not people are required to wear masks.  The problem is like that with smoking, once the lights go down, the joints come out.

Some incredibly ignorant, selfish folks on this thread. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with Covid-19 and had to quarantine for 2 weeks. We feared that she would die and it was close there for a moment and the doctors were close to intubating her, but she pulled through. But it was agonizing for my wife not to be allowed to visit her mother, and as her mother has dementia, she was certain that her children had abandoned her, even though they talked on the phone every day.

Wear a f*cking mask. The pandemic is spiking in several states because of stupid people incapable of following simple rules (like wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands, etc.). It's not for you, selfish pr*cks, it's for everyone else. If you are in a store and not wearing one, I will escort your sorry a** out myself.

BTW, I wear surgical masks. I wear one even if I'll most probably not come across a single person in open air and wide areas. I'm now in my already very sparsely inhabited summer house whereabouts in late-ish autumn; where it'll be almost uninhabited by winter, and I'll continue to wear my masks. More out of courtesy than paranoia. Also some "habits" are good. I don't even think about something, when it becomes one of my habits. Wink

Hi,

I'll join you ... the reckless side of many folks in this situation is insane ... and seeing someone in some big house not use it either, doesn't make it any better!
