Sorry been tied up recently , so not sure if I've already entered a selection. If not then
1. Brain Salad Surgery 2. Trilogy 3. Tarkus 4. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer 5. Pictures at An Exhibition 6. Works Volume One 7. Black Moon the live triple is great but it does repeat what is already on albums ,mostly. anyway Black Moon deserves recognition , an excellent late release

I'm shocked and disappointed that there's not much love here for Love Beach, when it's more commercially-appealing and more listenable (to my ears) than either Brain Salad Surgery or Trilogy, which aren't even in my Top 10 ELP albums.

I don't know why you're shocked, Love Beach is generally regarded as one of the low points of prog, let alone ELP's output. I'm more shocked that their two best albums aren't in your top 10. Trilogy is one of the great wonders of prog and not particularly hard to get into.

disappointed?! The lyrics alone make some cringe as does the album cover. Even the band was not fond of it, they had contracts to honor so they made this. I am surprised you defend it so much when there's not much to defend.

In my time as a member of the forum I can't think of any other prog album that gets quite as much stick as Love Beach. Not even Heaven & Earth.

^^ Yes, disappointed. Love Beach turned out to be a much better album than I expected, after all the bad things I'd heard about it, in just the same way as Genesis' Calling All Stations album turned out to be much better than I expected too, after you recommended the album to me yesterday.

I didn't recommended it, all I said is it's a decent album. Love Beach would probably get more respect if the lyrics to most songs were not so cringy.

Well, when you said Calling All Stations is a decent album, I took that as a recommendation for the album.

Ok finally;
1. Emerson, Lake & Palmer; 2. Brain Salad Surgery; 3. Tarkus; 4. Trilogy; 5. Welcome Back My Friends; 6. Emerson, Lake & Powell; 7. Works, Volume 1. Really hard to decide which one for the fourth position, Tarkus or Trilogy. And I'm surprised on how well BSS is doing over the debut.

The debut has some great tracks (Barbarian, Knife Edge & some of Tank) but much of the material betrays the same flaws that revealed themselves 7 years later during the band's death throes i.e. the problems of satisfying such a disparate trio of personalities as ELP
were manifest as early as this 1970 album.
The inclusion of 'solo' tracks can be interpreted two ways: as an
expediency to placate a record label anxious to meet the voracious
demand for product before sufficient group material had been worked up
or, ELP as an ego massage parlor. Coming full circle at the demise of their career on the 1977 Works album, the symmetry is complete, with each member getting a side
each of a double album.

I don't think most people come to a prog website when they're looking for something with commercial appeal
