A) Original bio + Pic

The Mysterious Flying Orchestra is a short-lived US jazz and fusion studio project directed by John Coltrane's iconic producer Bob Thiele. Just like in their name, MFO have remained a pretty mysterious and underground act of the 70s jazz landscape, flying away quicker that expected, as this formation has released just one self-titled album in 1977 that has gained a reputation since. The extensive line-up of this band features some players like Jerry Friedman on electric guitar, Jon Faddis on trumpet and Bob Mintzer on sax, among the almost fifty people that are associated with this record.

A picture of Bob Thiele (Unfortunately, there are no actual band pictures; they clutched to the 'mystery' part of their name a bit too much, if you ask me):

And a picture of the album artwork:

B) Listen to The Mysterious Flying Orchestra's self-titled only album:

C) Of course, they do not have a webpage; which 70s jazz band has a webpage? Tongue

D) A link I consider useful:

And another one:

E) A personal note: I think they would be a worthy addition to the Jazz Rock/Fusion category here on PA, since their music really has a progressive aspect to it and is severely enjoyable; I would say, MFO are a similar case to Both Hands Free, a very obscure UK jazz act that has been indoctrinated into the PA database not too long ago. (So, it makes perfect sense to see this 'Orchestra' on the site, as well)

The Mysterious Flying Orchestra has been rejected for JRF. Really does not fit in the progressive side of fusion. More on the disco and rnb end of the spectrum.
