Agreed - just a shame they never quite got the commercial success, but there was such a surfeit of quality prog in that seventies era.

They're all good, but Turn of the Cards wins for me.

For me, the best as a whole collection of songs goes is Turn of the Cards, though all the ones that I know have songs that I love. However, my real favourite is the Carnagie Hall one, which has all of my favourite songs, and I prefer those versions over the studio ones (also, it was the first album I got from them).

I'm not too crazy about that Song of Scheherazade "epic", but from they're amazingly strong 70's discography its hard to select a favorite album among the rest (except Azure D'or) -Ashes, Turn, Prologue or Novella...

Missed this one originally. I like them all except Azure d'Or. I love Camera Camera though. Vote goes to Song for all Seasons, followed by Ashes.

Got a real soft spot for Prologue, but Scheherazade edges it.

I'm not an expert on Renaissance but I'm familiar with 1970-75 era roughly... And I must admit that "Ashes Are Burning" really worked for me repeatedly. Like, sometimes I have complaints about their style, Haslam's vocals etc., but AAB always pleased me.
So, for consistency alone, AAB edges out Scheherezade and Cards. Edited by thief - July 16 2021 at 10:05 |

All are great. Prologue is an unloved classic. For fans of this great band it's really hairs breath stuff. I went With AAB.

Might choose Scheherezade, but I'm not crazy about Ocean Gypsy. As a Coherent album, Novella is the best listen for me.

Thank you to this thread for reminding me I still have a sealed, mint condition CD copy of Scheherazade and Other Stories.

I really like Novella for some reason. It's the one I reach for most often.

I feel like it’s spitting hairs on this one, Scheherazade wins, but Novella and Ashes are Burning get equal play. I don’t have A Turn of the Cards-I’ve been saving a spot for years for when I want to fill a big hole in my collection.
