One Starving Day are an Italian atmospheric sludge metal band from Ferrara, their name taken from a poem by Giuseppe Ungaretti. Active since 1997, the group was founded by Pasquale Foresti (vocals/bass), with Francesco Gregoretti (drums) and Marco Milucci (guitars) joining shortly thereafter. By 2000, the lineup would be complete with the addition of guitarist Andrea Bocchetti and Pasquale's brother, keyboardist Dario Foresti.

After issuing a three-song demo, the band would be introduced to the public in 2002 through a song featured on Deep Elm Records' Emo Diaries Chapter 7 compilation. After years of writing and refining, One Starving Day released their debut LP, Broken Wings Lead Arms to the Sun, via Planaria Recordings in 2006, with a vinyl version following on KNVBI Records featuring bonus tracks. Their sophomore album, Atlas Coelestis, appeared on Beta-lactam Ring Records and Narshardaa Records in 2009, showing a marked expansion of their sound, with a greater emphasis on experimentation featuring almost every band member taking additional duties on harmonium, glockenspiel or Mellotron and featuring guest musicians Mario Gabola on saxophone and Andy Nice on cello. There has been no further activity from the group as of 2021.

One Starving Day's depressive and ambitious compositions reflect the band's roots in hardcore punk along with influences from modern classical and krautrock. Similar artists in the archives include Neurosis, Dimlaia, Mouth of the Architect, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Guapo and Cult of Luna.

There's surprisingly little OSD streaming material to be found on the web (no Bandcamp/Spotify/Deezer, hence my mediafire links), so here's all that's currently on youtube:

I'm afraid we'll have to pass on this one unless there is easier streaming access to their catalog.

I have removed the public links and sent them to Nick, Cristi and Mike individually, which is permitted by way of section 1.d) in the artist submission procedure guidelines. I've been using mediafire for about five or six suggestions now in case certain material was rare and unavailable on the web, and I consulted with the Prog Folk team to make sure it was okay to do so before starting, so if it isn't I'll just forward super obscure artists like these directly to the team via DM in the future.

The band have an inactive Spotify entry for Atlas Coelestis where the songs are unplayable, and despite having a surprisingly well-known label like Beta-Lactam carry their work, the lack of availability and activity indicate the band are probably done for, so I don't see their catalog being streamable any time soon, Mike.

Here, at least, are a couple bandcamp links I missed the first time around: their debut song and one of their last recorded works, both compilation tracks:

"Animus" (2002)

"Traccia" (2009)

Great at least we have a couple of albums to vote on.  I'll forward to the PM team.
