To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand ELP. The songwriting is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the songs will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Greg's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from existentialist literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just bombastic- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike ELP truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Greg's existencial catchphrase "Oh what a lucky man he was," which itself is a cryptic reference to King Arthur's knights of the round table I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Keith Emerson's genius unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Tarkus tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Er, ok. Greg must have been a pretty smart 12 year old when he wrote "Lucky Man".

Oh gosh, how glad I am to understand ELP and  just not to be as intelligent as you are... Now, may I see your tattoo? (let's forget that misogynistic part about the ladies, shall we?)

(Now, there's an English word that comes to mind, but my father always told me not to use it...)

You're taking this too seriously. It's a copypasta meme. People can't take a joke anymore these days I guess.

This kind of crap is what perpetuates the hate to ELP.
I'm a huge fan of ELP and find the post ridiculous and a little offensive.

Hi,

The only thing worth commenting on is that not every kid just out of high school is that hugely intellectual about their music and words. However, that they might have a better than average appreciation and understanding of music is not only possible, it is also likely.

And thinking an audience is stupid, will cause you to get worse that ripe tomatoes on the stage. Just when you think you "got it", guess what? You don't. Not even close!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

JD this is like the old story about Robert Fripp going into a So Cal store and walking out with a bunch of candy bars without paying.......People just change the name in the story. It's pretty stoopid if u ask me.

Problem is it's posted under Prog Music Lounge, should be under Just For Fun.

BTW, ELP is pompous and pretentious and a great band.....You don't need to be too smart to figure that out LOL

I'm not sure it was supposed to be "Just for Fun" as it was never noted by the O.P. as being that until Mirakaze called him out.  The whole point to that original copypasta was to get "self congratulatory" lovers of the Rick and Morty cartoon to respond, and the OP seems to have been trying to get that same response by copying and pasting material that was already printed.  For now I'm just going to lock the topic.
