I have been listening to and enjoying some unusual covers of Sabbath songs and am looking for more suggestions.

Here are some of the ones that I have found.

1. Jazz Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots
This is Adam Wakeman with a fictitious 60s group that had originally written songs stolen by Black Sabbath songs. There was a 30 minute mockumentary about this.

2. Hellsongs - Paranoid
Swedish band that does 'metal lounge' covers of heavy metal songs.

3. Ruthie Foster - War Pigs
Blues version of the Sabbath classic with some nice slide guitar. This song is well covered in all sorts of versions.

4. Rondellus - The Wizard (Magus)
Estonian group released a full album of medieval versions with lyrics translated into Latin.

5. Planet of Zeus - Behind the Wall of Sleep
So this is Greek band doing a Southern Rock version of Sabbath song. Works for me.

6. Cindy & Bert - Der Hund Von Baskerville
I am not sure what to make of this one. It's a sort of psychedelic cover of Paranoid with all new lyrics in German based on the Hound of Baskervilles (Sherlick Holmes) I think. This one is just weird even for me.

If you have favorite unusual Sabbath covers, please share.

Great topic!

My own band, Casual Crowbar (RIP) did a comedic version of "Paranoid" when we did our "Spinal Tap" art project....we were a satire band of a satire band, sort of a Mobius strip of bad!

Here's one of my favorite Sabbath copies, Dee Snider does a great RJD imitation!

This jazzy cover version is so "out there" that it's barely recognisable....

Thanks to all for your suggestions so far. Some really good stuff. It seems like Sabbath's music is a good fit for jazz among all sorts of styles.

Some covers I was aware of but hadn't listened to, some I had heard before, and others that were a surprise. The Free Nelson Mandoomjazz and Soreng Santi were completely new to me, as were First Aid Kit and Robyn Adele Anderson. Had not even heard of those artists before.

This one is unusual because you wouldn't expect this from the band doing the cover....

Big Country - "Paranoid"

Here is a cover from a favorite band of mine Mercury Rev.  This version is quite nice, faithful to the original somewhat, but with some very nice effects that keep things more interesting and an excellent instrumental break...

Mercury Rev - "Planet Caravan"

I love the psychedelic vibe in this cover version of Paranoid and it stays true to the original song too, even if the lip-synching leaves something to be desired. Smile
