Even though Tales may overall the more complete and special album, for me it's mostly a matter of The Revealing Science of God and Gates of Delirium, and I like the later better.

Tales has twice as much music of similar quality.

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Lots of great replies in here, PA!
Tales clicked with me first listen, IDK what it was. Long rides to band practice must have been the perfect canvas for said sonic masterpiece. I completely understand why people hate this record, lol. It's a love/hate. For me personally, it was exactly the length of the tracks that drew me in; more Yes per minute! LOL.

TFTO has always left me cold, so Relayer for sure. "To Be Over" is vastly underrated!

Tales easily......this is a Prog site and any album that is 4 songs 18-20 min each on 2 LPs wins by default. Plus the music is brilliant, much deeper than anything Yes has/had done.
I thought prog fans had patience to enjoy a journey.....sheesh

^ I do like Relayer more... mostly because I like Gates of Delirium more. But yes, even though the only song I really like on Tales is The Revealing Science of God, putting the whole album in one sitting and paying attention to it makes it so much more enjoyable than just in parts.

What is it with these VS polls? They're both great albums! No need to compare.

PA is basically dead and conversing in circles at this point, so that's exactly why I'm making these threads.

I agree but that's also why most people hate said album, lmao. I've always argued there is no "musical padding", it's just "More YES for your dollar" .

Tales is a very good record but Relayer is just a masterpiece, the second best album by Yes and a TOP 10/15 prog album in history.

Is Yes or Genesis more prog? Are they even prog? What's prog?
Bro, what you do with your PF records on your own time is your deal!
I think Tales is equally as masterful, because Yes really upped their game in a short period. Rather than immediately reverting back to the CTTE album layout (one full side title track, two tracks on opposite side of record, etc.), they just went for full sides tracks. I actually think despite most people's negative reactions to the musical "padding" (More YES for your dollar, as I always say LOL), I truly think Yes was, is, and will be the only band that could ever pull that off IMHO. Relayer is a prog gem, but Tales is a misunderstood behemoth that still gets overlooked because of the albums surrounding it. I always enjoy the records that make even the most ardent prog fan balk; Tales, Trout Mask Replica, Obscura, etc. I truly feel CTTE, TFTO, and Relayer are a trifecta string of 10+/10 prog recordings; no hyperbole - just tons of Yes music! |
