Prog-metal is dominating. Not surprising, as prog has changed. What will prog sound like in 50 more years?

Now, you make me confused. Are we talking about our own personal preferences, or what generally can be considered as the most popular/"big" bands?
I am talking about the results of this thread only.

I can't think of 6 within the parameters of the edited OP. So I'm just going to nominate The Neal Morse Band, they adopted that name in the 21st century although Neal was releasing albums before 2000. As The Neal Morse Band they have released 4 excellent albums.

Personal picks, not necessarily going for who's really "big" in some sense:
Battles
North Sea Radio Orchestra
Sonar
(William D. Drake, who's not a band)
iamthemorning
From Monument to Masses
Schnellertollermeier

Interesting to see all those lists. I'm quite incapable to produce one... Apparently there's not really a Big Six, but a Big One: Riverside. They got the most mentions - most of the lists are very different from each other...

^Neither does Bubblemath. Wouldn't that be cool if they toured with Shamblemath?  :)

Bantom To Behemoth is an album though and not a band. I believe you are thinking of Birds and Buildings who put out an album with that name.

(I don't know why people don't read the Original Posts....)

Debut release after 2000
At least (minimum of) 3 (three) albums released

Here are a few bands that seem to fit the OP's criteria:
Bent Knee
iamthemorning
Steven Wilson
The Mars Volta
Wobbler
Monobody
Thieves' Kitchen
Anna Von Hausswolff
Unaka Prong
Haken
Midas Fall
Ciccada
The Psychedelic Ensemble
Sanguine Hum
Yugen
Utopianisti
The Moulettes
Dungen
The Amazing
Leprous
Brother Ape
Battlestations
Accordo Dei Contrari
Kotebel
Cosmic Ground
Homunculus Res
John Holden
NoSound
Riverside
Needlepoint
Sylvan
Lifesigns
Kayo Dot
La Coscienza di Zeno
The Samurai of Prog
Mystery
Sequentia Legenda
Stellardrone
Steve Hauschildt

My picks for "Big Six" would have to be:
Riverside
Kayo Dot
Steven Wilson
iamthemorning
Bent Knee
Wobbler

which I'm basing on the amount of news and excitement they generate when an upcoming release is given notice.

My personal favorite six would include:
Bent Knee
Unaka Prong
iamthemorning
The Amazing
Homunculus Res
Monobody (or Dungen)
