Held by Trees are a British post-rock outfit founded by multi-instrumentalist and producer David Joseph. The group play an instrumental and ambient style of post-rock primarily influenced by Talk Talk's final two LPs and Mark Hollis' sole self-titled work, as well as early Pink Floyd, Ryuichi Sakamoto, John Cage and Morton Feldman.
The project began in the early days of the global coronavirus crisis, with Joseph composing its first few pieces under lockdown before inviting a host of global collaborators to improvise over the tracks, in an homage to the approach which yielded Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. Among the contributors include Talk Talk session musicians such as percussionist Martin Ditcham, guitarist Robbie McIntosh and bassist Simon Edwards, along with saxophonist Mike Smith (Blur, Gorillaz), trumpeter Gary Alesbrook (Noel Gallagher, Super Furry Animals) and guitarists David Knopfler (Dire Straits), Eric Bibb and Tim Renwick (Pink Floyd, David Bowie).
After releasing a string of singles across 2021, Held by Trees issued their debut LP, Solace, in the spring of 2022 to positive critical acclaim.
