I know three "cliffhanger songs" ... songs which consist of two or more parts and span several albums:

  • Shadow Gallery - Cliffhanger: Part 1 on Carved In Stone, Part 2 on Legacy
  • Symphony X - The Accolade: Part 1 on The Divine Wings of Tragedy, Part 2 on The Odyssey
  • Dream Theater - Metropolis: Part 1 on Images & Words, Part 2 on Scenes from a Memory

Do you know other examples?

ICE AGE : "to say goodbye parts I & II" on 'The great divide ' and "part II" on 'Liberation'

RUSH : the different parts of "fear" for example "witch hunt" (on 'moving pictures') is part III and "the weapon" (on 'signals') is part II

I've always felt "Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes was a cliff hanger just by the way it ends.  No matter how many times I hear that song, the ending still gives me that impression.

Yes and no.  The main sequence began with "The Glass Prison", but "The Mirror" contains some of the same themes lyrically (and I think musically), and can be regarded as a prologue.  I can understand why Mike included "The Mirror" here, but I don't think it fits the criteria for being a "cliffhanger song".

Of course they're not real "cliffhangers" ... they're too different musically. Consider it a "honorary mention" ...

Well, it depends on HOW YOU interpretate the lyrics... And Mike Portnoy never said anything bout the Mirror being another song linked 2 the Glass Prison...

It says that The Glass Prison is the first song of a series of songs about the anonymous alcoholics program. However, the songs contain elements of The Mirror, and The Mirror is about the same subject. So in effect The Mirror is some kind of "subconscious overture" to that series of songs.
