Apparently there will be a gigantic box of 27 CDs and 5 BDs covering the career before the independent years of the 90s and onwards. Notably there is one Camelproductions release in there, On the Road 1981 (and a previously unreleased track on it), but that's most likely explained by it being a BBC recording originally, so Universal has just paid them for it like CP did back in the day.

There are a few remixed albums and unreleased or rare tracks like Sarah (never heard of this before), The Traveller, Autumn and Riverman, but most of the live stuff has already been out on previous reissues. Here's the full track listing and a god-awful cover image that I hope is just a placeholder:

My only problem with this set is that I have all Camel's studio and live albums, and for the price tag that surely will come with it, I don't know if I want to pay that much for the unreleased material that comes with it.

Yes, that's always the problem with box sets like this. I'd love it if they just left the regular albums out and only released the rare recordings, remixed albums and the live recordings that have previously been sprinkled all over the previous reissues and needed to be assembled into playlists to be played in proper order. I guess there's some calculations behind putting everything there and trusting that enough people who already own most of it buy it anyway with the redundant material and higher price tag.

The shops that have already listed have had it around 165 dollars or 140 euros.

I don't really see the point. I thought they did an excellent job with the 2002 remasters, practically all of which is still readily available at around £6 each new and all contain a generous offering of bonus tracks as it is. Overall, I think I'm happy to be happy with what I'm happy with.... Smile

Here's my attempt at breaking down what's actually new or available in a convenient form for the first time for those that have some versions of every album already. Single versions omitted since they rarely matter at all.

CD 1 – Camel (1973):
bonus tracks:
8. Sarah (previously unreleased)
10. Homage To The God Of Light (live – from “Greasy Truckers”)

I consider myself a pretty obsessive Camel archaeologist and I had never ever heard of a track called Sarah, so that's the biggest surprise of the entire box. If I remember correctly this version of Homage has (since the original release) only been available on the CP release '73-'75 Gods of Light which isn't very well known I guess.

CD 2 – Mirage (1974):

bonus tracks – demo session – Decca Studios 15th June 1973:
6. Earthrise
7. The Traveller
8. Supertwister
9. The White Rider
10. Lady Fantasy

These demo recordings have never been released to my knowledge and The Traveller is completely unreleased in any form officially. I've heard it on a 1973 bootleg before, it's great to have some sort of a studio version of it.

CD 3:
1. Lady Fantasy (Basing Street Studios original mix)
2. Autumn (previously unreleased)
BBC Radio One “In Concert” – 6th June 1974:
3. Nimrodel / The Procession / The White Rider
4. Ligging At Louis’
5. Lady Fantasy
6. Arubaluba

This mix of Lady Fantasy was included on the 2002 Mirage reissue. This is the first CD release of Autumn which has only been inconveniently available on the Moondances DVD before. Of the BBC recordings Ligging and Arubaluba were released on the Rainbow's End box set, the other two are unreleased.

CD 4 – Live at Marquee Club, London – 20th June 1974:
1. Introduction
2. Earthrise
3. Nimrodel
4. Six Ate
5. Supertwister
6. Mystic Queen
7. Arubaluba

CD 5:
1. Rhayader Goes To Town
2. The Snow Goose / Freefall
3. Lady Fantasy
4. Homage To The God Of Light

Again this entire Marquee recording is entirely unreleased previously if the information on this and previous releases is correct. All 1974 tour recordings that have been released on A Live Record and the Mirage and Snow Goose reissues have been from an October 1974 date, so this June date has never been issued before.

CD 7:

1. Riverman
BBC Radio One “In Concert” – 22nd April 1975:
2. Rhayder Goes to Town
3. Sanctuary
4. The Snow Goose
5. Migration
6. Rhayder Alone
7. Flight Of The Snow Goose
8. Preparation
9. Dunkirk
10. Epitaph
11. La Princesse Perdue
12. The Great Marsh
BBC TV “The Old Grey Whistle Test”:
13. Selections from “The Snow Goose”

Like Autumn above, Riverman has only been available on the Moondances DVD so this is the first CD release. The live recordings were released on the 2CD Deluxe Edition of Snow Goose some years ago, this is basically the same bonus disc plus Riverman.

CD 8 – A Live Record (1978):
18. Encore: Lady Fantasy (previously unreleased)

This is in fact not previously unreleased, but only available on the Lunar Sea compilation from the turn of the century. This is a recording with the symphony orchestra as is the Snow Goose recording that precedes it.

CD 9 – Moonmadness (1976):
bonus tracks:
8. Sprit Of The Water (demo)
9. Chord Change (demo – previously unreleased)
10. Lunar Sea (demo – previously unreleased)

Spirit of the Water demo was on the 2002 reissue, but the other two are unreleased as stated here.

CD 10 – Live at Hammersmith Odeon – 14th April 1976 – 1:

1. Aristillus
2. Song Within A Song
3. The Great Marsh
4. Rhayader
5. Rhayader Goes To Town
6. Air Born
7. Chord Change
8. The White Rider

CD 11 – Live at Hammersmith Odeon – 14th April 1976 – 1:
1. Lunar Sea
2. Preparation
3. Dunkirk
4. Another Night
5. Lady Fantasy

A couple of these tracks were included on the A Live Record reissue and the entire show as a bonus on the Moonmadness 2CD Deluxe Edition. That one had Lunar Sea taken off from the running order and included on the first disc, so this is the first time the concert is presented in a proper way.

CD 12 – Rain Dances (1977):
bonus tracks:
Live at the Colston Hall, Bristol – 2nd October 1977:
11. First Light
12. Metrognome
13. Unevensong
14. Skylines (Live at Leeds University – 3rd October 1977)
Live at the Colston Hall, Bristol – 2nd October 1977:
15. Lunar Sea
16. Raindances

CD 13:
1. Never Let Go (Live at the Colston Hall, Bristol – 2nd October 1977)

Up to here this is basically the Rain Dances Tour section of the reissue of A Live Record, minus Song Within a Song which comes up a bit later.

BBC in Concert – Golders Green Hippodrome – 29th September 1977:
2. First Light
3. Metrognome
4. Unevensong
5. Rhayader / Rhayader Goes To Town
6. Skylines
8. Highways Of The Sun
8. Lunar Sea
9. Rain Dances
10. Never Let Go
11. One Of These Days I’ll Get An Early Night

Six of these tracks were on the 2009 reissue of Rain Dances and the whole show on the Moondances DVD, so for four of these tracks this is the first audio release.

CD 14 – Live at Hammersmith Odeon – 1st October 1977 – 1:
1. First Light
2. Metrognome
3. Unevensong
4. Rhayader
5. Rhayader Goes to Town
6. Preparation
7. Dunkirk
8. Sanctuary
9. The Snow Goose

CD 14 – Live at Hammersmith Odeon – 1st October 1977- 2:
1. Tell Me
2. Song Within A Song
3. Skylines
4. Highway To The Sun
5. Lunar Sea
6. Rain Dances
7. One Of These Days I’ll Get An Early Night

As far as I can tell only Song Within a Song has been previously released on A Live Record, otherwise this is all unreleased stuff.

CD 18 – Nude (1981):
bonus track:
16. Captured (first version – previously unreleased)

Interesting to hear what this is like.

CD 19 – On The Road 1981 (1997):
1. Never Let Go
2. Song Within A Song
3. Lunar Sea
4. Summer Lightning
5. Ice
6. City Life
7. Drafted
8. Docks
9. Beached
10. Landscapes
11. Changing Places
12. Reflections
13. Captured
14. The Birthday Cake (The Last Farewell)
15. Nude’s Return (The Last Farewell)

This is basically the CP release of the same name as indicated, but Summer Lightning and Ice were not included on that for some reason as the show apparently still fits onto one CD.

CD 21 – Stationary Traveller (1984):
bonus tracks:
11. In the Arms of Waltzing Fraulines
12. Pressure Points (12-inch single extended version)

These were included in the CP reissue of Stationary Traveller, not on the original Decca version. This is the rare occasion where a single version is a worthwhile addition, since this is in fact the original version of the track which was then cut severely for the eventual album.

CD 22 – Pressure Points: Live in Concert – 1:
1. Pressure Points
2. Drafted
3. Captured
4. Lies
5. Refugee
6. Vopos
7. Stationary Traveller
8. West Berlin
9. Fingertips

CD 23 – Pressure Points: Live in Concert – 1:
1. Sasquatch
2. Wait
3. Cloak and Dagger Man
4. Long Goodbyes
5. Rhayader
6. Rhayader Goes to Town
7. Lady Fantasy

If you only have the original Pressure Points, then there's a lot that's new, but this is the same as the Esoteric Recordings reissue from 2009.

CD 24 – Camel / Mirage – stereo remix:
⦁ as on CD 1 – 1-7 and CD 2 – 1-5

CD 25 – The Snow Goose – stereo remix:
⦁ as on CD 6 – 1-16

CD 26 – Moonmadness – stereo remix:
⦁ as on CD 9 – 1-7

CD 27 – Nude – stereo remix:
⦁ as on CD 19 – 1-15

Blu-ray 1 – Camel / Mirage – 5.1 Surround Sound mix:
⦁ as on CD 1 – 1-7 and CD 2 – 1-5
bonus track:
13. Autumn

Blu-ray 2 – The Snow Goose / Moonmadness – 5.1 Surround Sound mix:
⦁ as on CD 6 – 1-16
bonus track:
17. Riverman
⦁ as on CD 9 – 1-7

Blu-ray 3 – Nude – 5.1 Surround Sound mix:
⦁ as on CD 19 – 1-15

This is all new stuff, very interesting to hear the remixes.

Blu-ray 4 – Promo Videos and Live:
1. Never Let Go
2. Arubaluba
3. Selections from “The Snow Goose” (Guildford Civic Hall 1973)
BBC TV “The Old Grey Whistle Test” – 21st June 1975:
4. The White Rider
5. Lunar Sea
6. Preparation
7. Dunkirk
8. Another Night
9. Lady Fantasy
Live at Hammersmith Odeon – 1st October 1977:
10. First Light
11. Metrognome
12. Unevensong
13. Rhayader / Rhayader Goes To Town
14. Skylines
15. Highways Of The Sun
16. Lunar Sea
17. Rain Dances
18. Never Let Go
19. One Of These Days I’ll Get An Early Night
BBC TV “Sight & Sound in Concert” – 29th September 1977:
20. City Life
21. Lies

Lots of wrong information here I assume, everything here has been released before on the Footage DVDs and Moondances. Selections from The Snow Goose is most likely the Old Grey Whistle Test 1975 recording from Footage I, the six tracks that claim to be from 1975 are really from Hammersmith in 1976 and previously available on Moondances, the tracks that claim to be from Hammersmith in 1977 are really the same 1977 Golders Green recordings from Moondances and CD 13 of this box, and the final two Nude tracks are obviously not from 1977 but Old Grey Whistle Test recordings from 1981 previously available on the Footages one track each.

Blu-ray 5 – Pressure Points – concert film:
1. In The Arms Of Waltzing Fraulines
2. Pressure Points
3. Refugee
4. Vopos
5. Stationary Traveller
6. West Berlin
7. Fingertips
8. Sasquatch
9. Wait
10. Cloak And Dagger Man
11. Long Goodbyes
12. Rhayader
13. Rhayader Goes To Town
14. Lady Fantasy
15. In The Arms Of Waltzing Fraulines

This is probably the original version with the hilarious drama inserts and not a doctored version with only live footage.

So depending on what versions you own previously there might be a lot here that's actually new and worth the money Thumbs Up I suppose there might be a mix up in the Marquee 1974 date, since everything else on the previous reissues is included here except the October 1974 Marquee recordings. Also the versions of Ligging at Louis' and Lady Fantasy from A Live Record are not included here if the info is correct, but other recordings.

As said above the current listings have been about 165 dollars or 140ish euros. But it's still not officially announced, so we'll see.

Camel is one of my all-time favourite bands, but I'm still totally uninterested by such a box set. I already have almost all of this stuff.

For me the main attractions are one completely unheard of song, one never previously officially released song, a complete unreleased show with Richard Sinclair and five remixed albums.

Also, not connected whether anyone buys this or not, since all of this stuff is getting a release maybe they'll finally also put all the Decca albums on digital platforms.

I find this hard to believe with 27 CD's and 5 Blu-ray's.

It would look pretty neat on the CD shelf, however. At this price I might actually make the investment.

Based on some comments in a Camel group on Facebook, at least one German shop had refunded a preorder and said that Universal is pushing the release back a few months from (I guess) the May date I have seen.

I only want the Blu-Rays for the surround mixes, but to purchase this I have to know who did those mixes. I won't play the CDs that we have all heard of before.

Thank you re, "since everything else on the previous reissues is included here except the October 1974 Marquee recordings. Also the versions of Ligging at Louis' and Lady Fantasy from A Live Record are not included here if the info is correct, but other recordings" - sums it up in a nutshell

Reads to me that they are going for the Fanatics, not the Fans, money who will buy anything, no matter how much is previously released to have the full collection

That said, not everyone owns a Blue Ray player, but a Standard DVD one

2nd, like the e.g Jethro Tull boxsets or other so called "remixes", "remastered" , the Camel album remixes, whatever improvement, do not justify the additional price as they don't exactly make the recordings sound entirely new. Thus, I would need to hear comparisons to prove me wrong

Same here Manuel

Just got notification from LaserCD that this box set has been canceled - indefinitely. Very sad, as I really, really want those surround mixes!

Anyone else hear this?
