If you like Mclaughlin check site spikesbigadventure.com (videos).

Here can you download 147 min of his works 1972-1991, and Shakti 1976.

Enjoy!

After having read all posts here I have to reluctantly agree with the majority - Mahavishnu Orchestra undoubtfully no.1 in fusion/jazz-rock for me too.

Don't forget the Italian band "Arti & Mestieri" with their release "Tilt."  The drumming on this album is incredible and the band comes up with some melodious, high energy, jazz/rock fusion.

The Norwegian WIGWAM is a shame for our country!!!

However, my fave Jazz-Rock bands:

  • Brand X
  • Passport
  • Soft Machine
  • Gong (75-77)
  • Mezzoforte

I'll check out Return To Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra soon!

Miles Davis' bands and the first incarnations of Mahavishnu and Return to Forever blew everybody else out of the water, IMO.  Brand X is a neat band but none of those guys were real jazz musicians.

I love their studio albums, all 3 of them: Feels Good To Me, One Of A Kind and Gradually Going Tornado.
