Suite Judy Blue Eyes remains a masterpiece, and indeed  the formation of this close harmony "supergroup" was inspired. But I even agree with John Peel, some tunes are very lightweight.

There's a good double CD collection called Carry On which showcases a lot of their best material, although sometimes Graham Nash was a bit cloying (Our House and Teach Your Children being prime examples). Some of the offshoots are actually better, such as Stephen Stills' Manassass, David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name and the Crosby/Nash album Wind On The Water. Crosby's penchant for unusual guitar tunings and jazzy harmonies gives an interesting dimension to a lot of their songs.

I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

I've got that double CD Carry On, Crosby's first solo and the first two Stills albums ... all great stuff ... oh yes not to mention around 20 Neil Young albums

The first Stills has both Clapton and Hendrix guesting on guitar ... it's excellent ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Love CSN!! Stills is one of the greatest geniuses of the acoustic guitar, David Crosby is a marvellous singer (specially when it comes to vocal harmonies) and Graham Nash blends perfectly well with the other two. In fact, CSN (the first album) is better than anything recorded by CSNY (for some reason, Young always did better with his solo works). Stephen Stills' solo albums are very uneven: the first two are very good and "Stephen Stills Live" is a great recording - and "Manassas", his project with Chris Hillman is definitely worth of a listen. Crosby's "If I Could Only Remember my Name" and "Oh Yes I Can" are vey good too. Don't know much of Graham Nash's solo albums...

I'd like to recommend CSN, the box set released back in 1991 or 1992, it is the most complete overview of their career, with plenty of solo material along with the most important CSN tracks.

As usually goes, nothing is perfect... "Live it up" is probably the worst album recorded by a major band which I ever heard in my entire life.

Thanks a lot.
I've ordered the first Stephen Stills and read good things about the second and the third one.

I like the first CSN album, especially Suite Judy Blue Eyes, but I prefer the 1st CSNY album.

I really like Buffalo Springfield's album (Buffalo Springfield) Again too. That one has Stills and Young on it. I'm not such a Byrd fan, but David Crosby contributed at least one brilliant composition for that band, IMHO, namely: Everybody's Been Burned.

Both Crosby and Stills had an ear for very original music.

I hear the new Stills, Man Alive, is a real eye opener...I had the first few Stills solos and remember liking the, though I only have the first one now.

I think the catalog of Crosby/Nash are really overlooked. I like those as much as any of the group's work.

I did a painting of csn, if you want to check out the music section on my site, by the way. Well, here is a link http://www.kenmeyerjr.com/music/csn.html .

Me, I love Deja Vu the best, with the first CSN second...have to confess, most of the stuff that came later just doesn't interest me as much. Give me Buffalo Springfield instead. Of course, most of Neil Young's stuff is head and shoulders above everyone else.

If you like art of musicians, check my site (the music section) and tell me what you think! http://www.kenmeyerjr.com

Very good band.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Oly,
dont forget to give a good listen to CSN - Daylight
Again recorded in the 80's(Timothy B. Schmidt filling
in on some of David Crosby's vocal harmonies). Also
Stephen Stills' debut album is excellent(Jimi on
guitar and Stephen on Hammond) and take a look at
the artists on David Crosby's If I Could Only
Remember My Name(Grace Slick, Jerry Garcia,
Michael Shrieve, David Geffen,etc), CLASSICS!..........

Should CSN a natural continuation of the original BYRDS? I like both and I always do this link.
