  Hi Everyone !

A few years ago I read about Lana Lane. By some she was called Queen of Symphonic Progressive

  Rock. I'm rather sceptical about this staement, but a fact is she appeared on an Ayreon album and

 as far as I know on the albums of Rocket Scientist. She has some solo albums, but I don't find her

 in the Archives. I would like to know how progressive is her music.

IMO her solo albums are not very impressive ... it's difficult to describe, like melodic rock on the edge of metal with occasional kind of progressive passages.

Only recently I listened to one album (I also read that "Queen of symphonic progressive rock" line on the sticker), and it was completely underwhelming. It might impress some people, but not if they know Ayreon.

Just 60 second samples, but if you download them and play them all in a row (e.g. enqueue them all in winamp), you get a pretty good impression.

I haven't listened to enough of her stuff to determine her "progressiveness." Her first release, "Love is an Illusion" is melodic rock with some progressive leanings, a couple ballads. The second album I have from her is Secrets of Astrology which is a mixture of symphonic prog rock, prog metal, and melodic rock. It is much more progressive.

Lana Lane has a wonderful voice. She sounds a little like Heart's Ann Wilson.

If I had to, I would consider her music as "prog related" if she were ever considered for Prog Archives. To me, the music is a hybrid of Asia (or Heart) and the Rocket Scientists.

As for being included in PA, I would lean towards yes (but I could be persuaded to change my mind) because some of what I heard is prog, although a lot isn't, but her relation to prog may be what could assist her in being an entry.

She is listed in GEPR, has been reviewed extensively at ProgressiveWorld.net, and is listed at Gnosis. She has not been reviewed at Ground and Sky, ProgressoR, or Axiom of Choice and she is not listed in Jerry Lucky's The Progressive Rock Files discography. Looks about 50/50 on "progressiveness."

Lana Lane should definitely be added. I agree with Prog Related, because the other genres don't really fit. I would also describe the music as AOR/Melodic Rock with progressive leanings. BTW: The same applies to Gary Hughes ... if you like Lana Lane, check his two albums out as well (she sings on some tracks).

Imagine Pat Benatar with a mellotron player in her band and a couple of
token instrumentals included on each album, and you're pretty close.

Bump

Is there any further movement towards adding Lana Lane to the Prog Archives?  I would certainly support her in the Symphony Prog category.  I think that having a Keyboard wizard like Erik Norlander playing on her albums certainly qualifies her for this category.  If you haven't heard him play, he plays the music that you wish that Rick Wakeman had continued to play before he went New Age.
 
Some mentioned that vocally she sounds like Pat Benatar or Ann Wilson from Heart.  Another artist that I think that she compares to is Candace Night from Blackmore's Night, and coincidentally she is the spouse of a virtuoso musician who plays in her band.
