Yesterday I bought an interesting album:

Noekk - The Water Sprite

It's their debut album and came out about 5 months ago. It's a sort of "Symphonic Dark Metal" album, but the Metal influences are quite "civilised", not agressive at all. It is a combination of 70s retro symphonic prog like Wobbler, Dark Metal and Avant-Garde.

They have three 2 minute samples on their website:

The samples are quite representative ... discuss!

Very interesting Mike, nice find.

Id certanly like to hear The Fiery Flower all the way through after listening to that taster but the first song i found the vocals a bit anoying.

The vocals annoyed me a bit at first listen, but now, after the second spin, I've already gotten used to them.

It was mainly the opening few seconds of that sample were the vocals annoyed me, to be honest they were pretty average after that.

Oh my god! And it's both guys from Empyrium! This can't not be amazing! Especially if it's more prog, like the site suggests..?

Hmm... it's not much like Empyrium at all, it seems . Still decent, though.

I've added Empyrium to Mike's blog - those into metal should listen to the first two albums (listed last on the page), and those... not, the other two. I think Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays was recorded completely without electric instruments or drums

EDIT: it seems only Weiland will play - a good album, but don't expect metal if you listen
