It's amusing fluff, certainly not "terrible" but also not significant, not that they try to be or anything.... if you want superior music in the same vein, I recommend the two Helloween albums, Keeper of the Seven Keys, Parts I and II. They were both released in the late 80s and perfectly exemplify the type of style that Hammerfall are attempting to emulate on their releases.
EDIT: And to answer your initial question, their debut Glory to the Brave is their best album... get that one next.

Helloween is good, but Hammerfall is tons better. I recommend Crimson Thunder. It's by far their best album. I can't stop listening to the title track.

Helloween has a crappy lead singer. That's how they can be better. Also, Hammerfall is a way tougher name than Helloween. That just sounds like Eric Cartman trick-or-treating.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOO
Hammerfall has a good, and Helloween has a crappy singer? Which one, BTW? Hammerfall has a real bad singer, having a weak voice, and always copes with detonation onstudio albums, and generally detones live

crappy singer , maybe you mean Andy Deris
have you listened to the Keepers... albums ???? there is a great voice of power metal... Michael Kiske
the fact that the name is tougher doesnt say anything
it's the music that matters

Hammerfall? I have heard only 3 or 4 songs by them. I'm not blown away by this band.

Power metal is quite boring, especially Hammerfall.
Helloween is the only p.m. band that is listnable.
