My question is why do so many prog artists have at least one song that has the word red in it?

I thought we all agreed that purple was the proggiest color.

I think it spans beyond prog, to all modern western music.

Red House (Hendrix)
Red Red Wine (Neil Diamond)
Walls of Red Wing (Dylan)
Lady in Red (Chris DeBurgh)
Little Red Corvet (Prince)
99 Red Ballons (Nena)
Red Skies (The Fixx)
..just the ones that immediately come to mind.

It's more that there are a vast number of things that red can be used to symbolize...passion, lust (those 2 represent 90% of the songs ever written), danger, anger, etc etc..

Yeah but I can think of songs with other colors:

Prince-Purple Rain

KC-Starless and Bible Black

Twelfth Night-Blue Powder Monkey

Procol Harum-Whiter Shade of Pale

Moodies-Knights in White Satin

Edit:  Genesis-White Mountain

and sometimes they like to mix it up, for example Tony Banks-Red Day on Blue Street.

Yea, the color Red represents lots of sh*t.

For those who don't know King Crimson's Red is all about the fear of flights, thats what my friend told me, and then he explained to me how Red gets involved with that. I don't feel like typing it all out...

Like which songs, Cygnus? The only really prog songs (i.e. not
just songs from prog bands) I have are KC: "Red" and "One
More Red Nightmare", and Rush: "Red Barchetta"

I do have a fair amount of prog (1,000+ songs) and only a few
songs with "red" in the title. On the other hand, I have about the
same amount of other music, mostly rock, and there are many
with "red" in the title.

I don't think the color red appears more often than other colors in prog or any music.  I think people focus more on red (that's a fact), so people forget about the songs that have other colors in the title and just concentrate on those that mention the color red.

Red is one of those colours that has many different conotations, such as fear, love, maybe in some peoples eyes it is to party and have a fiesta.

At least thats what I think anyway
