I just picked up Land of the Midnight Sun at a thrift store recently. I recognized his name from Return to Forever, so I decided to take a chance and get it. I'm glad I did, it's amazing.

My favorite 3 are Land of the Midnight Sun, Casino and Elegant Gypsy. Also, he has a 2 CD Anthology that has a pretty good cross section of music.

Some of his acoustic stuff obviously influenced Petrucci & Rudess on their "Evening with..." CD.

If it's worth playing, it's worth playing loud!

I definetely felt DiMeola's guitar style became more melodic over the years. His earlier albums, though classics, I felt were kind of stagnant but still awesome. He solidified his own guitar style.

Oh yeah! I saw him in concert following the release of "Casino" (1978). He was amazing! The 3 you listed are at the top, for sure. These followed his departure of Chick Corea's Return to Forever.

"Splendido Hotel" was in that time frame, too. Good stuff!!

Interesting thing is; he opened for, "Renaissance". Another one of my favorite groups from that era. And; all time, for that matter. Annie Haslam is wonderful!!

All you guys have GOT to get one of the GO albums, the live in Paris one is out on cd now (I think the two studio albums are out together as well, not sure though)...a great bunch of songs, including greats like Klaus Schultz (Tangerine Dream), Steve Winwood, and more...and there are some great solos from DiMeola there to be experienced!
