Okay, here we go ... Starcastle - Can there be a worse band associated with prog? I think not. Bay City Rollers - So bad, I think they were even embarrassed. Green Day - GTR - Um ... okay. Styx - They call THAT prog? Beastie Boys - They call THAT music? Sweet - Remember them? I didn't think so. Bachman Turner Overdrive - Even their name turns my stomach. Yes (Open Your Eyes) - It's a darn good thing we're all entitled to a mistake or two. ELP (Love Beach ) - Same as above. Motley Crue - If those guys aren't embarrased, they damn-well should be. Vanilla Ice - Let's all just sit back and laugh for a while. Milli Vanilli - Go ahead, keep laughing.

| Not their first album "In The Garden" (1981). Very good pastoral neo- psych (especially the singles "Never Gonna Cry Again" and "Belinda"), with CAN's Hölgar Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit providing much of the backing.

^ Can't agree with the Beastie Boys. I'd rate them among the top bands, ever. Most of the rest of it, though...

Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is a great guitarist, listen to the songs "Big Love" and "Go Insane" I'm not a big Fleetwood Mac fan but some of their stuff is quite good, good pop music to say the least.

Pop, Power Pop (punk-pop and emo), and "gangster" rap are all horrible excuses for music.
As for prog, I never liked Styx or The Mars Volta at all, but they are far from pathetic.

Phil Collins, need I say more?
Mike and the Mechanics (I know I know, they're a good band, not pathetic, but I just don't like it)
Post Peter Green Fleetwood Mac (except the stuff with Danny Kirwan on).
Iron Maiden (I really don't like them, sorry - seeing that clip of them at Ozzfest really put me off once and for all)
Status Quo (except "Pictures of Matchstick Men", that's not bad)
U2 - bland bland bland
Simply Red (Mick Hucknall, good music taste, but his voice...)
Green Day, Finch (they're first album anyhow, emotastic), Blink 182,
Limp Bizkit (what is that all about?), Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly... and
everybodies favourites: Shania Twain, Celine Dion and that woman who
shall remain nameless, because she's that bad!

Hmm, indeed I am el böthy, grr at you! I shall not sleep for a week now!
Off topic: Can you point me in the direction of English translations of Borges?
Just imagine a Phil Collins and Mariah Carey duet... tasty!
PC: Oh, think twice, it's another day for you in paradise...
MC: wooo woo woooooooo wo wooo woooo wo
Even my friends who are into the likes of Bowling For Soup, Greenday, Good Charlotte and the like dislike Mariah!
I've never met anyone who likes her, how is she so successful?
Anyhow, I digress... back onto topic please people...

Go and listen to some bands that aren't good enough to secure record deals. Then come back and debate honestly whether any of the above bands are pathetic.

Popularity/success or popularity/capability may be another criteria for this subject

If you mean Metallica, I couldn't disagree more. After Black album, they turned crap, yes, but their early work is incredible. Ride The Lightning is one of my all time favorite albums

Well I think Kiss is one of those bands that makes just good time rock 'n' roll, there's nothing even close to pretentious, thoughtful, adventurous or complex in their output (alright, maybe "Music from The Elder"). Kiss, Saxon, AC/DC or even Manowar (the death to false metal! dudes ), anybody who takes those bands seriously needs to see a therapist.
