Who do you feel is the most opposite of progressive music?

I think either Yanni, or The White Stripes.

Music Industry pop and rock, where the likes or Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell tell their bands what to write or write it for them becuase they know it works, those who are scared to experiment and try something innovative that has never been done before. Prog rock is there to counteract/counter balance that so music can continue to push the envalope and be innovative, to continue making music without a safty net.

HOW COULD I FORGET THE MOST UN-PROG DUO OF ALL ! Phil Collins and Chris de Burgh!

Rap is absolutely the opposite of prog.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

Technically speaking, I reckon it would be someone like The Ramones - all short songs and not many chords changes, very few instruments etc etc.

Not that they're bad - I saw them at Milton Keynes once. They were only on for about 30 minutes and played about 20 songs in that time. Brilliant.

I think Punk is definitly the opposite of prog. Punk is simple and quick, for people with no attention span. I really hate punk...

I don't hate and it was major refreshing movement, after the staleness some well established prog bands had tried to dump on us by the the mid 70's. What I don't like is the media people who jumped on the punk band wagon and stayed there for too many years, voicing their nonsense (and often uneducated) opinions about all of prog. Punk is part of rock music, and therefore a potential source inspiration for proggers - e.g. The Mars Volta! And as said elsewhere, punk never detered the likes of  Robert Fripp, Peter Hammmill, Steve Hillage  playing with punk musicians or being admired by punk musicians

Rap is absolutely the opposite of prog.

O yeah? Two of the most progressive artists (Frank Zappa and Mike Patton) rap sometimes as well!

I can't stand real punk. I like the Offspring, and older Green Day, but punk just sucks to me. And Country. But, I have to say that I like rap. More underground rap than mainstream, but rap isnt bad...if it's creative.

Example: Nelly, Paul Wall, and Lil Wyte suck while groups like Gang starr, Snoop Dogg, Bone Thugs, and Trick Daddy are the sh*t.

If stuff is creative it's definitely better to listen to, and that's why punk and lots of mainstream rap is what I can't stand....and country.
