are there any musicians on the forum who play something more exciting than a guitar? clarinets, violins or trumpets anything. im sure i saw someone talking about playing the harpsichord at one point.

I've played harpsichords, virginals, forte pianos and several church organs - but I'm classically trained on the pianoforte, singing, theory of music and violin - I own an ocharina (the wind instrument used on "Stairway to Heaven"), FWIW. More exciting than a guitar? Bass guitar, of course!

what's more exciting to play than a guitar? (except possibly a woman) I'm trained in cello and piano, and also play banjo, mandolin, dulcimer (the lap kind, not the hammered...yet), bass, dobro, oud, balalaika, various percussion instruments, and tin flute (thats T-I-N, smartypants, as in James Galway). There was a determined attempt at brass (trumpet and cornet) along the way, but I think the concept of a spit valve finally got to me. Certif1ed...I had always assumed that was a Mellotron on "Stairway" (using same tapes as "I Talk to the Wind"), but I could very well be wrong.

er... I could be wrong as well, but I always thought it was a multitracked ocharina (or ocarina, I'm told...). I'm usually quite good at identifying real instruments (part of my classical training), but I couldn't tell a Mellotron from a Korg XJR 9000 (I just made the latter up for this illustration!) I just Googled it, and came up with this; http://www.led-zeppelin.org/reference/assorted7.html It says there that it's several recorder tracks - but I'd like to hear from someone who knows!!! I can play the ocarina of time... as long as I'm Link. I just love that Zelda game.. the music is so addicting. Other than that, I did play percussion in high school and college.. and even tho I was more a kit or snare player... I have been trained on tympani.. |

id love to play the clarinet, now that is THE instrument of your traditional ballad. Im talking disney-esque, three part harmony, full orchestral backing, sweet enough to make even the toughest smack-head weep at the beauty. pete doherty is in trouble when they start playing 'A Whole New World' from Alladin!

Now I'm really curious- it looks like people are split between the Mellotron (we know for sure he used one on the version of "Stairway" on "The Song remains the Same") and either ocarina or recorders. Not only that, both sides are sure they're right Oh no, that probably means I'll have to listen to it yet again BTW: threefates: Ocarina of Time...good one...not many other games feature musical instruments...although there was that awesome "Journey" game for the Atari |
