This strange and obsscure band form with two people. a rocker and a liric singer, released his first record around 1984, I think sould be included here, it`s has so many prog moment. The problem is that the work of Brendan Perry is the most proggy, instead the music side of Lisa Gerard is totally different, mixing tribal sound, opera and etnic influences (not the side I like of the band).

opinions anyone?

Why, there`s a lot of band with no prog meaning in the prog-related category

Have you listen to all the records of DCD?

the term "prog" doesn't sound good to me as a refernce to Dead Can Dance. Dead can dance is Dead Can dance; a folk-celtic driven band. Very good, by the way.

Yes , in another thread i said that Dead Can Dance should be considerated as a prog related band...

They have prog passages in some albums... but  i dont think we would call them "prog"

¿Are you shure about this? I mean, music is rythm, ryhtm can be followed. Any ryhtm has an effect on your body (if it gets you, that is;) Many players dance while performing, etc, etc, etc...

Yeah, though I love Dead Can Dance (and Brendan's solo album), I wouldn't consider them prog, but a more goth/classical/world mix.

they are a good band, but I don't think they're progressive

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since some time ago I been asking to include three Gothic bands, let's remember that Gothic, Celtic and Medieval (As a fact the two last centuries of Medieval classical are called Gothic) are early forms of Classical music and this bands clearly fusion early classical with Rock, plus the fact that most of them have extremely complex vocal arrangements, intelligent lyrics, some odd timmings, nt commercial and excelent instrumentation.

Several sites as GEPR or Progressor have already included some so called Goth/Medieva/Celtic bands, I hope at least this three bands are included:

  1. Dead Can dance
  2. Miranda Sex Garden
  3. Mediaeval Baebes

Not even necessary Memo, Symphonic Prog is related to the influence of classical into Rock, lets remember that Classical music started in the XI Century with Medieval and continues until today with Modern Classical, so lets not only limit Symphoinic to the Classic and/or Baroque periods, already ELP is mainly based in modern Classical and Renaissance is based in Medieval influences..

If you want to add them for their Celtic influences, already done also, Medieval Celtic is a strong force in Folk Prog (Also Renaissamnce, Strawbs, Jethro Tull, etc).

Just need to adjust a bit some sub-genres, no need to add new ones.

Iván

This matter was discussed among admin and collabs and yes most of us considered Dead Can Dance to be worthy of inclusion.

I think we should be careful to consider we are talking the NZ-OZ duo group and not the UK DCD that had that disco hit You Spin Me Round!

this will be done soon!

let's just stay above the moral melee

keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

rather than un-sheath our sword

Actually the "you spin me round" thing is by Dead Or Alive.

But yes, Dead Can Dance should be in the archives. As Progressive Electronic, or at least as prog-related
