Has anyone heard this wonderful double cd compilation? It's field recordings from 1926-37 recorded in booths at medicine shows during the depression.
The styles are a cross between early jazz, blues and country-folk.Musicians include Frank Stokes and PINK Anderson without his sometime sidekick FLOYD Counsel(?) It is a bit on the pricey side but well worth it.The packageing is phenomenal. It is released by OLD Hat Records.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Haven't heard it but there was an article in the last edition of Mojo about medicine shows. It mentioned a compilation so it was probably this one.

Pink Anderson and Floyd Council - something there rings a bell!

My wife really liked the soundtrack to "Oh brother where art thou?". Is it similiar music on this compilation? (I assume it would be slightly less well recorded).

It is similar but more ramshakle. The recording is suprisingly good considering the source. It's not exactly pristine but what would you expect.
