I would like to say that I am a fan of this album, It's not their best but I really think it's good.
The title track is one of the best tracks the band have I think, the vocals and melody and that crashing outro! and the way it leads into spirit of survival is great.
"Don't go", apart from its rather cheesy guitar part at the start is quite a good pop song with a nice chorus, even if you don't like that sort of style. Give love each day (terrible name) but great song with some of the most beautiful orchestral arrangements. Can you imagine sung by squire is also good, nice vocals
Of course the longer tracks "dreamtime" and "In the presence of" are just fantastic!!
The album is not without its flaws though, sometimes it seems like yes' tribute to love haha, but that's not all bad i guess. Also "soft as a dove" and "time is time" though insignificant, I still don't really like them. I love the cover too
I think yes now sound more american than british!!!! hehe. they've kind of lost the "raw power" factor they once had
Has anyone heard it? Tell me what ya think?

I agree, if it had left out a couple of the weaker tracks it would have been shorter and better. But I have no problem with long albums

neither do I...heck,I'm a Schulze fanboy...he fills albums till the last second of the 80 minutes capacity... ...but
this album particulary makes me weiry after about...uh...45
minutes...as you've said,shortened from some pieces...it would have
comed great...

I just bought it. I played the whole album through and I really enjoyed it.
Esspecially the orchestral arrangments. The engineering on the album is
great. Some songs are a little too soft and "pop" for me, but I can not say I
do not enjoy that album.

I LOVE Magnification
I love the way the full orchestra is incorrpoerated. I thik this album gets a bad rep because its a 'later; yes release. But IMO its just as good as anyother.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I agree with you. I've been off my computer of a few hours because I went to watch the yes symphonic dvd I bought yesterday and the songs that they do live off the album are brilliant!! It was an EXCELLENT concert, without a doubt ***** I also only copped that magnification is a concept album in a way...

I've had my own little private woodstock with some of these songs. That one always has me feeling the power.

well done Riccy, that's an excellent diagnosis.....it drags for me, too so only 3/5 I'm afraid.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Well actually the album barely gets to 60 mins, but I don't feel that's TOO long, Especially in prog, but maybe a couple of songs probably should have been left out...

I like the album, especially the title track.
However, many of the tracks are far too pop for my tastes. And Yes have so many albums better than this, I don't find myself listening to it very often.
Although, I bought this album in a cd store for THREE DOLLARS!!! It was well worth it.

Hmm, I've only managed to get through this album three or four times, I believe... Got it used in a record shop last summer. It's been a long time since it last visited my stereo but I do remember rather liking the title track and parts of Dreamtime, yet overall it's a bit of a lackluster affair, I'm afraid. The incorporation of the orchestra I have nothing against and it's been done with good taste, but the compositions themselves are just a little bit too "Topographic Oceanish" in places (~ In the Presence Of) or too twee in the case of some of the shorter tracks.
A effort so still listenable at times but nothing I couldn't live without quite happily.
Congratulations for getting the Symphonic DVD, Winter Wine, it's my most watched DVD by far!
