Are they still touring, even with Alex in jail?

Speaking of which, has anyone heard the latest about Mr. Lifeson? I heard they were going to delay the tour if Lifeson is still in trouble with the cops

I didn't realize he was in jail, either.  I know about the incident on new years eve (He & his son got into an altercation with some hotel security & later some police), but he was released on bail; if he's already serving time that's a speedy trial!  My guess is it's being ironed out as we speak...

I had a link to it in my history, but the Yahoo news story had expired

In a nutshell, Alex & his son (at least; I assume the rest of his family as well) were attending a party at a hotel on New Years Eve & were, like everyone else in the house, fairly drunk.  According to most accounts, Alex's son got up on stage (uninvited, though it isn't clear wether anyone else was performing at the time) and tried to sing a song to his wife for New Years.  When the hotel staff tried to get him off stage, Alex came to his son's defense & the scene became physical at some point, although no one knows for sure who started it.  In any case, Alex had his nose broken, he & his son were arrested & spent a few hours in jail before being released on bail.

The police claim that Alex shoved an officer down the stairs & spit blood at them.  Alex claims any physical actions on his part were in defense of himself & his son and at no time did he strike or shove a police officer.  To be fair, Alex was bloodied & bruised after the scuffle (and was very lucid, calm & gracious while speaking to the press afterwards), and none of the police were, to my knowledge, injured at all.

The story as I know it ends there; I haven't heard what developments have occured as a result of any of this, but at the time they were very concerned about any legal troubles Alex might have interfering with the tour plans.  I'm sure they have it all worked out one way or another, and I doubt Alex is in any serious trouble, but I'm waiting for more news like everyone else at this point.

JIM: i remember reading a magazine interview with Geddy Lee in which he stated that Rush would love to tour Australia, they even said they would strip the show down to play at the smaller venues just to get here.no promoter took them on and to my knowledge they have never played in Australia(i could be wrong!!) i envy you!!!!

Well, hopefully at least.

I was reading an article in the latest 'Classic Rock' (great mag, by the way) last night & it appears that the authorities are clamping down on violence offered to law enforcement officers - if Alex were to be found guilty, he could face a mandatory 5 year stretch!! Let's face it, that would not only mean the end of the tour plans, but 90% certain, bye bye Rush......

He's got the money to keep himself free, didn't kill anyone or anything. They'll be in my area Aug 14, should be great, it's a Tuesday night so I better ask for the next day off :)

Yea, I guess I'm spoiled being close to NYC, so many people are so far away from anywhere that any bands come to (speaking in terms of the above from Aqualung). Hey, I do have a Genle Giant live in Rome cd, though; unfortunately the concert gets interupted during Cogs in Cogs when someone starts throwing raviolis at Gary Green.
