You can "lol" all you'd like about it, but there are plenty of good modern bands out there.

well as long as they are prog fusion ;) . He plays a bit like Jimmy smith. But you can hear them over doing the complexity in their songs so they don't quite have the clean sound of elp, mahavishnu. But still cool stuff.

Niacin are pretty good and original with their covers:  Red, Blue Wind, You Keep Me Hanging On to name three more.

However, have to remind you the the Jonas Hellborg Group (Hellborg and the Johansson brothers variant) early 90's album e, were there before Niacin with the power Hammond jazz fusion.

I highly recommend their album Time Crunch.Great stuff, that cd was my first exposure to Niacin and when I first listened to it I couldn't keep the smile off my face. They really blew me away.Their sophomore album High Bias is also excellent.

I am a real drum nut and love Dennis Chambers.Sheehan is great as always and John Novello is superb.

I got their newest one,Organik, recently and it is very good. And I agree, their cover of King Kong is awesome.

Niacin also covered Van Halen's song Mean Streets on their album Deep.

And the Jonas Hellborg Groups's e album is great, and they did proceed Niacin.

Niacin are still damn good,though.
