There is a band from Bahrain called Osiris. Despite their Arabian origins, however, the band don’t play Arabian music - more like neo-prog with some Genesis/Camel/Yes touches.

For music that sounds particularly Arabian, you can try Camel’s album Rajaz. Camel is a symphonic prog band, but this particular album of theirs has a strong Arabian flavour. Check out the album reviews and you’ll see what I mean.

Hope that helps .

Besides 'Rajaz', I have listened to 'Nomades' by Jean Pascal Boffo, wich really can be considered 'Arabian prog'. I've only listened to another Boffo CD, and, although it's not as arabian sounding, the influences are still there, so I guess it could be part of his style.

Also, most of the records by spanish group Amarok have, to a certain extent, arabic influences. I'd recommend 'Mujer Luna'.

Not prog, but of interest:

Dhafer Youssef is a Tunisian oud (lute) player who works with Scandinavian jazz musicians. Digital Prophecy and Electric Sufi are both excellent albums, and there's a new one due out this year.

Anouar Brahem is another oud player who records for ECM. His albums use almost exclusively acoustic instruments, and many have an Eno-esque feel.

Radio Tarifa come from southern Spain and mix Spanish and North African influences - the recently released live album Fiebre is an excellent place to start.

'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Robert Wyatt, Gloria Gloom

I don't know an arabian prog band, but the band "Kingston Wall" plays good rock-music with lots of arabian influences, but no doubt, it isn't prog...

Try Souad Massi. She's a singer-songwriter from Algeria... not exactly prog but in her music she blends arabic music and European influences (especially flamenco and French music). Lyrics are in Arab but you can find the translation in the booklets...

I would recommend "Zakir Hussain". He plays fusion with eastern motives and I find him very nice.

The only close to prog arab sound band I know is from Israel. They are called "The natural choice" and I would recomend their album "Bear foot" as a fine example of arab prog. They sing in hebrew and in arab in this album. I have no idea how to find it out of israel but maybe you'll find a way.

OOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo  I love Arabic music too!!!  Hawkwind has some Mid-East influences at times.  I have covered one of their songs ("Assassins of Allah") which you can hear at:

http://cdbaby.com/cd/cyndeeleerule

There are several other tunes there that have world-inspired themes as well..

Btw..not prog but check out this AWESOME band:

www.animusmusic.com

They are a world music band in the Glenside, PA area and their main guitarist/oudist/bazouki player is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!  They totally ROCK!!!!

Cyndee

I agree that Ozrics has alot of world influence in their music, including Arabic and Reggae.

INDACO.

You can find them in Archives. Members of BANCO and other Italian bands play oriental music.

And don't forget Page - Plant "No Quarter" (better on DVD).

Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)
