Which is the better post-rock band?

Personally, I can't choose. Depends entirely on my mood.

What do you think?

Why choose when you can have both

But seriously, I think I'm gonna go with Sigur Ros.

I will also agree. I really have no preference. They are my two favorite post-rock bands.

Could it be that mine will swing victory towards Sigur Ros? I bloody hope so, they're way better than GYBE

(even though I do like the latter)

I think I'll go with Sigur Ros too, even though I do love GY!BE to death. Sigur Ros wins by a very small hair for me. See my review on Agaetis Byrjun to see what I think of that album.

Any others?

I enjoy Mogwai too.

I just picked my two favorites, the two I consider to be the biggest post-rock bands.

Indeed Tholomyes... i dont know why Mogwai got this rating.. i think people who listen post-rock for the intensity should be enjoyed whit the mogwai fantastic music.. it is just my opinion.. but i consider me as a real post-rock fan, so i think that mogwai made post-rock what is it today

I would have said Sigur Ros a few months ago, but now it's definitely Godspeed. I really love both bands though .

I too consider myself a "real post-rock fan"  but for me GYBE! was the one who sold me to the genre. I like to keep my post-rock bands close to each other so there is not much difference between them.

man, I could keep talking about post-rock all night so I'll go to sleep and let you guys alone

The genre post-rock was born with the album Young Team of Mogwai as i read. However when mogwai were asked too many times about that label, they just deny it, and also that label bothers them. They just affirm that their music is more close to punk than progressive or "experimental" wich i consider a joke, the guys of Mogwai are very ironic when people talk about how sad is their music and they just responds with a smile and laughing  that they're not depressive, sad or moody people at all.

pushing this one up ... cos there's a newer virtually identical thread I'm going to close
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."
