I like most of the things, including Guru Guru, that were released on the Rock on Brain label during the seventies. They have stood the test of time, but I have to listen to them on old vinyl LPs.

I just got In the Guru Lounge.Really funky stuff with a lot of weird electronic effects. Mani is still going strong in his sixties.

I thought it was time to bring this thread I started a couple of years ago back from the dead.

I still prefer the debut (awesomely titled, as it is exactly that!! A UFO) as this must be one of the most psyched out album ever, and Hiniten is also fine.

Kan Guru is also fine but weaker (the Bo Diddley thing is too long and not much fun), than Uli Trpte (bass) moves on, and a big part of the spirit leaves with him. Then, next album Ax Genrich (guitars) leaves. I don't like thenext few and you have to wait for Shearer (sax) to save the group in the long run... By today's standard, Guru Guru without him is just as unthinkable as if Mani wasn't part of it.

Saw them twice in recent years as a quartet. Afun concert, some of which can be seen on the Krautrock double DVD >> see the various artistes headings.

Guru Guru is incredible!  I haven't heard all their incarnations-- I'm most familiar with the early power-trio lineup of Neumeier/Genrich/Trepte-- but what has drawn me to them is the quirky, virtuosic drumming, use of a tam-tam as a ride cymbal, use of live electronics, and the overall eccentric, weird, truly psychedelic vibe pouring out of the speakers.

If you haven`t heard  "Shake Well" or "Wah Wah"  you`ll love these albums from what you`ve said above. The problem is that everyone is hung up on Kan Guru and UFO while it`s real tripped out there`s so much more to Guru Guru. All of their stuff is wonderfully warped in some way.

Add me to Guru Guru fan club. They carry some unique, humorous and fascinating spirit (yeah... even for Krautrock!!!) that will never bore me I guess.

Fascinating spirit  very well put. And Mani says he`ll keep going as long as he lives and I believe it ! Greatest band that never sold a million albums Wink.

I have always been a fan of them and even have their least accessible (by "least accessible" I mean "hardest to get anywhere", not "hardest to listen to") albums like "Jungle" (where they explore same funk territory). Mani Neumeier is an excellent drummer.

To his credit at almost 70, he's still drumming up a strrm and dancing around, making the show on stage. And his casserole solos are always entertaining the firt three times you've seen them.

Yes, he will be 70 next year. There are a few recent videos of him on youtube. He has a little old men's belly, but else is still very thin. And he hops around on stage as if he were 40 years younger.

One band I would travel to the ends of the Earth to see. Not one bad album as far as I`m concerned. Even Guru Guru `88 and Jungle have that wonderful strangeness you always get with Mani. It`s so dissappointing when people say that the band was done after Kan Guru. I mean, Mani always had the most creative and adventurous musicians playing with him in Guru Guru. One of the greatest drummers in my book. He`s like a freakin`windmilling octopus.

They're definitely one of the rare bands who still have the magic well into their careers. One of their later albums, Wah-Wah is excellent.

It's a good album, but I would start at the beginning with UFO.

It`s not representative of their output but it`s one of my faves. The first three on the Brain and Ohr labels are kind of misleading when considering the rest of their catologue. There`s much more to Guru Guru than relentless freaking out with amps turned to eleven. My recomendation for a first Guru Guru album would be "Mani Und Siene Freunde" and then take it from there.

Yeah, that`s a great live album. I`d leave the early stuff alone at first. As said earlier, it`s too bad that this material gets all the attention.

The second one is kind Of Guru Guru meets ''crazy'' friends like Damo Suzuki of Can fame........a real treat

The third one is a concert of the original line up back then in 1970, real stoned-psych.
