Is his solo projects considered Prog in any shape or form???

His work have been added to a few database Prog websites like ProgGnosis, by however this site does not include him??

Is his solo work Prog enough to be here??

The album I had of his, 'Wolf', wasn't really prog; it was AOR akin to Boston or Foreigner really. Had an impressive pedigree though; Ray Davies produced it, plus Jack Bruce and Manfred Mann I think played on it.

I reviewed some soundtrack album four or five years ago ... may have been Armageddon actually ...

certainly didn't sound proggy to me

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

he did the soundtrack for Exorcist: THe Beginning if I'm not mistaking... but that surely wasn't prog (not even a rendition of Tubular Bells methinks )

I have his 1989 solo album Can't Look Away. It kind of sounds like Talk from Yes, with the exception of the one epic on Talk. Based only on this one album, I wouldn't consider him prog. Maybe prog related, but in the same sense as Phil Collins is to Genesis, and I know we wouldn't want Phil as an entry in PA for his solo career.

Lets do a simple evaluation, lets see some artists on Prog Related (Where in the best scenario Trevor Rabin will be sent):

  1. Peter Gabriel: An icon of Prog Rock due to his job in Genesis, it's true that his solo albums are not 100% Progressive, but he took Genesis to the peak during his era.
  2. Jon Anderson: Idem to Peter Gabriel but in Yes.
  3. Alan Parsons: His first three albums are Progressive and Tales is almost a masterpiece of the genre
  4. Waters Roger: Vocalist, bass player and songwritter of one of the iconic Prog' bands, his solo albums are not as good as his work in Pink Floyd, but still very related to Prog'.

And lets compare:

  • Trevor Rabin: Took Yes to the worst era from the Progressive Rock perspective, his solo works have no relation with Prog', replaced with less artistic success an icon as Steve Howe.

Do you believe Trevor Rabin can be compared with Peter Gabriel, Jon Anderson, Alan Parsons and Roger Waters?????

I don't, he doesn't belong here, would be like including Phil Collins for Sussudio.

I (still) have his album 'Wolf'. I bought it for a frequent played number in a dutch radio rock show (Alfred Lagarde's beton-uur). I think it was called 'Heard you cry wolf'. The instrumental solo was fantastic. Another number i remember was 'Open ended' which was rather similar to 'Wolf'. Other numbers were less interesting. Overall the album was more mainstream hard-rock.

I diasagree with salmacis (Special Collaborator) about similarities with Boston and Foreigner. I own all Boston's albums (which are a few, sadly) and some from Foreigener. I can assure that Boston plays more intelligent, a better kind of Art Rock, melodieus rock music. Foreigner had a very interesting debut album called 'Foreigner'. It was neither pop or hard-rock, maybe prog related. Later albums first tend to pop-rock and even pop music (ballads).

Indeed, TR is no prog, but prog related. That's what I think, if you ask me.

Well, you don't ask me, but I said it anyway
