I have no clue....I am a huge Karet fan.

Me and my best friend are both Prog enthusiasts but I love them and he thinks they are garbage.

As to why, HE finds them slightly repetative.

I also think that they sound very produced if not a little over produced(I still think they rule)

Although Over-Production is why I just cant dig Pink Floyd(other than their Older works wich I find wonderfull!!)

they are indeed underrated!

I've got The Devouring, A Night for Baku, Suspencio & Displacement, Reflections from.. and I'm really looking forward to Recollection Harvest, which I ordered!

Djam Karet has a very distinctive sound which van be heard on every album, but none of these albums sound the same!! considering that it's more like a hobby project than a professional outfit, it makes the quality of the writing and playing all the more fantastic!

BTW their classic promo pic is the best promo picture ever taken in my opinion, I'm still really fascinated by this supreme example of inventiveness!! (I posted this piture on their last.fm page , please vote...)

I think these "underrated" and "overrated" topics are overrated.

I for one really enjoy what I've heard so far: I've heard both Recollection Harvest and No commercial Potential. I'll keep digging in their back catalogue, as budget allows
What happened to this song we once knew so well???

Djam Karet is certainly one of the USA's best instrumental/prog/rock bands, ever. No question in my mind about it. What they do, they do in a certain way that hasn't been heard in the repertoire of any other instrumental (or vocal) group.

I've also had run-ins with folks who dislike (even trash) DK's music. Theoretically speaking, I believe this is because those people were expecting something else—and they didn't get it, whether it be fusion, symphonic prog, more "swirly" events like what the Ozrics do. I'm not sure. If anybody already likes, say, Philharmonie, they should be a shoe-in for Djam Karet.

Djam Karet's track record is pretty amazing! Since '97 the guys have been crankin' out one fantastic album after another: The Devouring, The New Dark Age, Ascension, A Night For Baku, and the new one, Recollection Harvest, which features the most keyboard/synth work (of the analog variety, especially) of all of them (and yes, some people complained about that!!!  )

Anyway, always good to see other DK fans hangin' about...

I've been listening to RFTF, BTHC and S&D for about 15 years now and try as I might I just can't seem to get it. I bust em out every 6 months or so and spin em but nothing clicks. I'll keep trying though.
