I would like to tip my hat to Jeff Buckley (rest his soul)
One of the most beautiful mail vocalists (in body and voice). It's truely a shame when a mocking bird dies young.

I know some people might laugh at me, but I have to give credit to Pearl Jam, I've been a Long time Fan, My favourite of their Albums has definately got to be Vitalogy.
Some of you might have heard of them, but one of my favorite non-prog bands right now is "Ours"
I really don't know their popularity status. All I know is they have come to my home-town of Mt.pleasant to play at Central Michigan University Rose Arena once. Sadly, I was out of town...
I know they had something to do with a Song that was wrote for Spider-Man 2. Like I said, I really don't know how far their fanbase stretches. ANYONE?! heard of'em?
Oh yeah! THE DOORS! Gotta love the doors. Other mentions go to bands such as, Sun Kil Moon, Spirit, Nada Surf, the Sparks, the Arcade Fire, Beck, Modest Mouse, Sigur Ros, etc... too many to name.  YAY!

NON-Prog???

I never thought about this before, but PINK FLOYD sounds like Maddona mixed with Some Kenny G, plus a lot of Hip Hop influences, a little Gwen Stefani, some Rammstein, a bit of Paco de Lucia and another bit of Bill Clinton's sax sound.

nonono! stop saying these evil things!!!...maybe with the wall and other later albums but...

is there anybody out there?

Pre 90's - sorry, not that original but it has to be Led Zeppelin

Post 90's - some of the trippe stuff is really atmospheric, with a lot of interesting sounds going on.  Best are Portishead, Massive Attack and Morcheeba

I've always adored The Move.  Check out the prog leanings on "Shazaam" in Cherry Blossom Clinic and Fields of People.

And, of course, The Who.  "Sell Out" may be one of the most entertaining albums ever produced.

There's a non-prog act I really admire.  Mary-Chapin Carpenter is classified as country singer, but she's so much more.  She mixes country, rock, blues and jazz to form a cohesive whole.  Besides, how many "country singers" do you know of that write, play and produce their own stuff, not to mention being to get BRanford Marsalis to guest on their record?

If you've ever heard the Move you know they are nowhere near being Prog.  I just said a few of their songs have prog leanings for no particular reason.  I might add that I love Randy Newman, too.

Pre 90's Led Zeppelin I agree, but post 90's it must be Dave Mathews Band or the Argentinian band Divididos
