Live at the '84 Stonehenge Free Festival & Live at Dingwalls, London '86

Due to much demand producer & director, Al Stokes, has brushed off the cobwebs, blown the dust out of the whatyamacallits and re-formatted these Here & Now audio visual gems from the vault for the digital age we are currently experiencing, and rather marvellous they are too. Dead handy those menu type things for replaying your favourite track again and again and again - and they all look so young.

Been & Gone" and "A Midsummer Nights Rock Show," of which "Live At Stonehenge 1984" is a part, were both shot on 500asa Eastman Colour 16mm film and contains unique and previously unpublished film footage of the Stonehenge site and gives an insight into the ethnicity of the mid-80s free festival scene. The Dingwalls footage was available on video in a past lifetime, or the late 80's as it's sometimes known, if you knew where to look, and is of their 'farewell' gig. We now know it wasn't the end but merely the beginning of a short hibernation period - they didn't know that at the time so play up a storm in a celebratory wake-like fashion.

"Both films evoke the days of our yoot, a shared history when free festivals still roamed the land and the alternative scene lived in a spirit of co-operation, peace and harmony. Mainly in a brightly painted collection of buses and trucks. Nostalgia may not be what it was but why not sit in your favourite armchair, a bottle of screw top wine at your side and come smell the wood smoke, the memory of certain substances in daze gone by and bask in the delierious glory of space punk and all things hippie before the men in blue serge suits and big boots came along and trashed it forever. You can be a chameleon but you don't have to change ..."

Also included on the DVD are three short bonus films, "Back To The Beanfield", made by Al as part of his 2005 degree dissertation research and featuring the world renown festival photographer, Tash; "The Youth of England" and "The Travellers" contain still photographs shot by Al in 1981 at Stonehenge, with a narration based on Walton's "Henry V", which are used as back projections for Al's touring rock band 'Dreadhead.'

For more highly entertainging stories behind the filming and much more detail besides visit Al's website www.alstokes.co.uk/. There are currently no plans to distribute this DVD so you can get it here or directly from Al with a UK cheque, and that's it.
