Alphataurus

I am very much enjoying their self-titled album and it's my first leap into the Italian Symphonic Prog. genre as a whole.

I am aware of other bands that sound similar, such as Museo Rosenbach, Il Balleto di Bronzo, Premiata Forneria Marconi (P.F.M.) and lots of others, but I was wondering what happened to these guys?  Did they go into any other Italian bands?

I have been reading the reviews and there is no mention of sounding like Colosseum in places.  The vocalist reminds me of Chris Farlowe and the guitar playing reminds me of Clem Clempson too.  The keyboards in Ombra Muta also reminds me of Colosseum.  I can also hear Miller Anderson of Keef Hartley Band in Ombra Muta in the guitar parts.

And obviously I hear VdGG moments as well.

I would love to hear an English vocals version of this type of music.  I know P.F.M. used English vocals on some of their albums and even brought in Peter Hammill to write some, but are there any English vocal equivalents of Alphataurus?

Alphataurus are simply amazing!

On the top ten of all the huge italian progrock scene of the seventies!

Yep, La Mente Vola is also my favourite track!

It's incredible to think that it was recorded over thirty years ago!! Arrangements are so modern...also vocals...

Avoid the other album listyed, though

Asbjornssen says it is third quality demo tracks

They are demo tracks, indeed! That's because the band split up prematurely during the recording sessions of what whould have been their second release!

At that time they had only released some demos. In the early 90s, due for the rising interest for the italian progrock scene, the demos were released as their second effort!

may want to try Schicke, Fuhrs and Froeling's Symphonic Pictures from Germany also. I find it along with Alphataurus' debut and ELP's Brain Salad Surgury to be some of the best keyboard driven progressive symphonic/electronic rock to come from the 70's.
