Hi, I'd recommend to you fresh band from my hometown (Gdansk, Poland), Sea Vine. They play kind of art-rock, and they use analogue instruments (such as Moogs, or Fender Piano), what makes them sound a bit diffrent:) enjoy!

this band is exceptional and really offer some terrific modern and retro sounding Neo-Prog.

They have 2 albums. DISOBEY (2011)and FANFARE FOR FANTASY. (2013)
Get them both! I think Fanfare For Fantasy could have a good chance at being album of the year for me. ;)

I love both albums from COE - 'Disobey' and 'Fanfare And Fantasy'. Highly recommended!

Indeed the Fanfare & Fantasy album is a very good one. Really like it.

Au4 - … And Down Goes The Sky
http://www.au4.ca/discography/

They call it post-rock and electronica, but this album is much more than that. Sometimes the vocals are almost metal, and the closing track has a surprisingly energetic guitar solo. My favorite track is "So Just Hang On, Beautiful One", there' s an official video for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsqgiR7XO2g.

And the album is free to download. http://www.au4.ca/download/

I couldn't find their name on this forum, so I'll add 'Minus the Bear'
Their album 'Infinity Overhead' appears to be here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHu4XgY-jgs&list=PL4D9241CCEF3FBC09

I just found them and wanted to know if other people had heard of them.

I listened to track #7 first, which was good for my tastes and it felt like it got more layers by the end of the track.

edit: Track #7 on that play list is 'Cold Company', which is actually track #10 on the album, fyi.

Also, really good prog album-like artwork:
http://www.juxtapoz.com/illustration/sae-tachimoris-vibrant-illustrations

Wish I was writing music just so I could hire her to illustrate for the album.

I highly recommend Plegethon and In Crescendo by the Italian band Kingcrow. They have a much more melodic approach to progressive metal that is really refreshing. They tend to avoid crazy time signatures and pointless keyboard melodies that plague so much progressive metal.
Just give it all an hour by the concrete lake.

I would definitely Recommend Finland's Wintersun and their 2nd/latest album Time I

Wintersun are a band that really do specialize in epic metal.
They produce a lovely soft and hard sound through instrumentation and Vocalization.
Fans of NIGHTWISH will appreciate this metal band very much. I saw these guys in concert a couple of weeks ago and they really are the real deal. Enjoy.

                               Dear Mr. Jones,

I will look into your recommendation. I also had to reply to your posting since my 12 year old son has the same name as you. His name is Wilson John Jones who was named after his two Grandfathers who were both deceased when he was born. His Grandfather, my Father Wilson was named after the President at the time of his birth, Woodrow Wilson. Thanks and take care.

                                Sincerely,
                                Kim Jones

I recommend, for the those who are new to Pendragon and are looking to get an idea of just what kind of fabulous Neo Prog they create, purchase the 2 disc compilation set by Nick Barrett himself ' INDRODUCING PENDRAGON.'
It's an incredible line up of songs that contains mostly epics done by the band, but more importantly you get the big picture by just how good these guys really are. ;)

Very cheaply sold through Amazon right now. A steal really. ;)

So as of late I've been struggling to find something new and up and coming, the prog scene as it was isn't always producing fresh talent.  The other day I had a friend of mine recommend this band called Archetypes, I'll throw a link down below, they've only got one track out but it's a killer! I'm looking forward to hearing more of this stuff.

Anyways check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi there King Martycat

New quality bands are difficult to find. Try Illusionsuite. Their new album only has top scores on reviews and their last album kick ass. Definitely my favorite album for 2013.

I sent an email to Prog Archives to try and get the Finnish band 'Waltari' included a few weeks back but I never heard back.
Their music crosses many genres, but they have one album called 'Death Metal Symphony in Deep C' which is a hugely overlooked Prog gem.
The album consists of one piece stretching out for around an hour, including everything from Opera & Orchestral to Industrial and Death Metal.
It takes some getting used to but it is what I think Progressive music is all about over the past 20 years. It never died, but branched off without being noticed apart from those bands that all sound like Crimson, Yes, etc. It deserves to be recognised but I don't feel like it will be given a chance all the way through. This was way ahead of it's time. Give it a try (and yes, it has some sections of 'grunting' which may put some members off!)

Kettlespider are giving away their latest single "inevitable" for free.

The Australian band are recommended to anyone who likes classic 1970s style progressive rock with a heavier punch.

ala: Porcupine Tree, Rush, Haken, Jolly, Karnivool

Help yourselves!
