No. Even though I like Vai, his music isn't prog, or prog in the sense of the purpose of this website.

And for all those who say he's devoid of passion and he's a machine- you're just jealous because he's better than your favourite guitarist!

Such a remark only shows ignorance. Yes, he is boring sometimes (for other reasons - noodling, inconsistent songwriting...) but he's the most passionate and soulful guitar virtuoso I know. I think he is more progressive than Satriani or any other shredder - there's no need to fear that they can be added too. His style is unique and eclectic (though influenced by Zappa) and noone can play guitar like him. He has also a lot more knowledge in music than other solo virtuosos.

Conserning the inclusion in the archives... He plays a lot of non-prog stuff - blues rock, fusion, ethno rock... A lot of music also doesn't fit any style, for example: What is "OOOO"? avant metal or fusion or what?? But some compositions are prog - just listen to: "Fire Garden Suite", "Salamanders in the Sun", "There's Something Dead In Here" (not a pleasant listening but it's typical avant prog!), "Love Secrets", "The Silent Within", "The Road To Mt. Calvary".

He has some real prog moments for sure and overall he sounds a lot like art rock. He may be worth consideration.

Yeah but little good did Vai do to Zappa's music.. it was all downhill in the 80's, and it was in the 80's when Vai was with Zappa.
