    Posted: February 18 2006 at 19:42

MORGAN was a progressive rock band which released two fantastic albums in the first half of the seventies. Their music has ELP and GENTLE GIANT influences, with the predominant sound of Morgan Fisher's keyboards ( Hammond Organ, Moog, VCS-E synths, mellotron and el-piano). Both albums were recorded at RCA in Rome.

  • Nova Solis (1972)
  • The Sleeper Wakes - (Brown Out in USA) (1973)

The line-up included Morgan Fisher (keyboards), Tim Staffel (guitar and vocals), Bob Sapsed (bass) and Maurice Bacon on drums. Fisher, Bacon and Sapsed were members of a famous pop beat band called Love Affair, Tim Staffel was the vocalist from the band Smile (his replacement from this band was none other than Freddie Mercury, and that band became QUEEN). Fisher later achieved international fame with MOTT THE HOPPLE during their peak period in the early 70s and then with BRITISH LIONS.

Nova Solis:

  1. Samarkhand The Golden - (8:04)
  2. Alone - (5:17)
  3. War Games - (7:03)
  4. Nova Solis: a suite - (20:17)

The Sleeper Wakes:

  1. Fire In The Head - (5:01)
  2. The Sleeper Wakes - (6:07)
  3. The Right - (9:38)
  4. What Is - Is What - (19:56)

I Hope to see this great band here soon.

sounds impressive enough to have them in

i'll check in my references book and if they are listed (and i see absolutely no reason why they should not be) then we can have the same deala as Junipher Greene

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Don't know Morgan's work, but keeping with the Queen connection mentioned, I believe Morgan Fisher actually played keyboards with Queen- I'm sure I heard his name mentioned on my 'Queen At The Bowl DVD' which was from 1981 or so...
