I do not like Planet X. I heard all of their albums, I borrowed them all 3 or 4 times, trying to get in their music. Finally I am convinced there is nothing to get into. Simply nothing!
LTE - is just about perfect instrumental progressive project. Both albums are 5 stars IMO.
Thus not much hesitations when voting..

no, not exactly
I would say, as they know how to play their instruments (do not know what though) 1 star for any of Planet X, except Black Utopia - 2 stars (there are some moments in this one).
And 5 stars for LTE.

Black Utopia is not a Planet X album. Did you do your homeworks?

Oh, right, sh*t, my mistake. Frankly I can't see much difference between Derek's solo projects under his own name (well, "Mythology" is different) and his solo projects under Planet X name. Would you mind to tell me about some distinguishing features apart from name.

^ Planet X is more technical and abstract - basically because it's a joint effort of three artists (Donati, MacAlpine and Sherinian) to create really complex, jazz-influenced music. On Sherinian's solo albums you always get lots of influences from guest musicians, and they're generally more metal than jazz.

OK, then, thanks.
Strange, I like complex music and I lke jazz-influenced music, but failed to find anything interesting in Planet X, inspite of various approaches to it. Never mind though, I have plenty of great music to listen to, so I can easily leave Planets XYZ all alone.

It's a shame that so many people bash Planet X just because they find their music uninteresting. It should be obvious that they did not try to create a prog rock/metal album, or the most emotional album in the world. They tried to create a very complex, focused and abstract kind of music, and they succeeded brilliantly. I would say that the musicianship on MoonBabies is one level above that on the two LTE albums ... that does not imply that it is better, but it means something.

I am not sure if you assumption on what they tried or did not try to create is correct, and it does not matter what they tried. I can hear what they achieved, and I do not like it. Simple as that.
And, yes, I find their music absolutely uninteresting.

I do not like the mindless technicality that is Planet X. A very poor project.

I have some songs from LTE...and yes they are over the top musicianship with virtuosism at 110%...but I can´t get to like them much...not even to hear more than two songs in a row... I only heard one Planet x song (the one from this site) and...yes, it´s ok...but it does it even less than LTE for me...
Can anyone give an other good technical band?...Ah, and no Spiral Architect jejeje For some reason I happen to like the idea of technical complex bands...yet I don´t like the bands I have heard ...is this strange?

I can recommend you to try following:
Bozzio/Levin/Stevens
Spaced out
Talisma
Addison Project - one of my latest purchases - very jazzy (maybe too jazzy for me) but still very good!

This is kinda objective statement, and no one in right mind would argue about that.
However any poll requires rather subjective personal opinions.
I just wonder what you voted for???
