Does anyone think Triumvirat sounds like ELP or am I just hyperventilating?

TRIUMVIRAT came together in 1971, when mastermind and composer Jurgen Fritz, inspired by the music of the British art rock band The Nice, found two like-minded musicians in Hans Bathelt (drums) and Dick Frangenberg (bass) to follow a similar direction with his own band.

Triumvirat sounds like ELP.

Starcastle sounds like Yes.

I've only heard 'Spartacus' but I hate it.They lift ELP rifts and even complete organ refrains from Tarkus.Its a joke really (IMO).

one of the main problems with bands is copycatting, or riding on coattails. Triumvirat is a guilty party, often in their albums you are not sure if you are listening to ELP or Triumvirat. BIG NO NO, as much of this music is judged on  individuality and creativity. If you are looking for a band that sounds like ELP but shows creativity and originality I would suggest Alphataurus debut album or Schicke, Fuhrs a& Froeling's Symphonic Pictures! 

 

Eloy is guilty of Floyd fakes, would be another example of coattail riders!

richardh shows he's been around for awhile.

Well, TRIUMVIRAT can be a kind of ELP more accessible, but I LOVE albuns like 'Illusions on a Double Dimple'  and 'Pompeii'  ... even more than pretentious albuns like 'Trilogy' ...

And talkin' about vocals, the voice of Greg Lake is fantastic  , but it don't  diminish the value of the sweet voices of Helmut Köllen and Barry Palmer... I love their vocals too...

And both have bad albuns... 'Love Beach' for ELP and 'Russian Roulette' for TRIUMVIRAT...

The heavy use of synthesizer and keyboards in a Progressive Rock trio of the 1970s led by a keyboard player would be bound to draw comparisons with ELP.

The music on "Spartacus" does indeed sound like ELP in several places, but the first two albums sound less like ELP in my opinion. I think the first two albums are also better than "Spartacus", although the latter sold better, especially in the USA.

Richard, you ought to at least check out "Illusions On A Double Dimple", as I think it is much better than "Spartacus" and you may think differently about it. I'm a big ELP fan too but "Illusions" is one of my all-time favourite Progressive Rock albums.

Don't forget the Triumvirat song "Lucky Girl", an obvious nod to ELP down to the moog solo at the end & the acoustic guitar treatment.

I picked Triumvirat in the "Guilty pleasures" thread. . A clone band or a tribute band? Or merely EL&P obsessed musical thieves? Or what's the difference? I always wonder what Keith Emerson thought?

Regardless, these guys did have some playing chops to sound as good as they did. Although I do cringe at times when I listen to their albums. It's the kind of thing you love to hate.  Hey, I have the albums.

Although Triumvirat has some re4seblances to ELP, specially on the organ playing, they can´t be considered as ELP clones. For instance Triumvirat don´t make any classic adaptations or Cčst La Vie like ballads.

I like'em, they are VERY similar to ELP, but I still like'em!
