I'm a personal fan of Neil Peart's writing, but what does everybody else think?
I bleed coffee. When I don't drink coffee, my veins run dry, and I shrivel up and die.

Ian Anderson's lyrics on Thick and Aqualung have always been high on my fav lists. PF's are right up there as well. King Crimson went through so many phases, it would be hard to choose them overall. Now, if you break them down into eras.....?

Difficult to choose between (Fish) Marillion and Pink Floyd - the styles are both so different, and so utterly brilliant.

I chose Marillion...

I voted Genesis. Peter Gabriel just about beats Peart for me, although Rush are my overall favourite band.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

The Flower Kings get my vote, for this passage:

Say a prayer for the human race
when looking down from a wheel in space
Can we put an end to the mindless war
Do they still remember what they're fighting for
With the blood of Jesus on the nail
we turn the balance on a scale
In pain and fearless suffering
lies a message from the King of Kings
See the mindless masses so dangerous
saying "you don't belong here-you are not one of us"
soon the cities crawl, living under the gun
and they feed on hate for the different one

(chorus)

Did someone pray for the long lost souls
or the tired ones who lost their goal
When the seventh angel rise his sword
Can you hear the one voice of the Lord

...can ANYONE make sense of that?  I LOVE it!

Seriously, I ADORE that passage.  He sings it with such conviction that you just KNOW that it's got some deep, personal meaning to him...  it's even better on the live DVD...

I shed a tear when Daniel Gildenlow belted out "Even when you're far from home...  like strangers in a waiting room!"

I'm serious.

Mike:  " Do you think Roine really meant it when he said he'd never listened to Dream Theater prior to the Transatlantic project?  And why do I talk so formally?"
