The Anekdoten Newsletter #24, April 2006

Greetings and welcome to newsletter #24!

We haven't done any public performances since the Burg Herzberg Festival in July, but now we have a few festivals coming up.

Portugal

Next weekend we will do our first ever gig in Portugal at the Gouveia Art Rock Festival. They organizers have put together an impressive line up. The headliner is Peter Hammill, who according to his website at www.sofasound.com will be playing solo with a Steinway. Peter has, as you probably know, been a big influence for us, both musically and lyrically. The first time we appeared on an official release was with a demo version of Karelia on the people-who-have-been-influenced-by-peter-hammill-and-van-der -graaf-generator compilation tape "The Songwriter´s Guild". It now looks like we missed the opportunity to see him with the reunited Van der Graaf Generator, but solo with a Steinway also sounds good to me. :-)

Festival schedule:
Friday      Taal, Matthew Parmenter, Present, Peter Hammill
Saturday  Anekdoten, Alamaailman Vasarat, Amon Düül 2

Matthew Parmenter is an old friend of ours. We did a crazy mini-tour with him and his mates in the band Discipline back in 1994 in the USA and Canada, and it will be very nice to meet (and hear) him again. Alamaailman Vasarat are also old friends that we haven't seen for quite some time.

Spain

First ever gig in Spain will be one month later at the Tiana Prog Fest, near Barcelona, on the 20th of May. The other confirmed act so far is Riverside from Poland.

Finland

First ever Anekdoten gig in the more Northern parts of Finland will be at the Qstock Festival in Kuusisaari, outside Oulu, on the 28th and 29th of July. Oulu is quite close to my mother's birthplace, where I spent many childhood summers.

Other confirmed bands/artists: Lapko, The Cardigans, PMMP, Paradise Lost, Tuomari Nurmio, Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators, Sonata Arctica, Mokoma, Kauko Röyhkä, Deathchain, Amorphis, Egotrippi.

We are hoping for some more live-activity in the autumn, but for now we will mostly be working on new material in between the gigs.

There will probably be some updates under the Photos-section at www.anekdoten.se every once in a while. Anekdoten have bought a scanner, and there are quite a lot of old and not so old photos that we'd like to share with you.

Until later, as ever...thanks for listening. :-)

The Portugal festival sounds incredible, Anekdoten, Alamaailman Vasarat, Taal and Amon Duul II... it's incredible!
